I have STUFF. It accumulates. Being a frugal, responsible person, I kept a lot of it because "it might be useful" or "somebody else might find it useful" or "I could give it away on Freecycle" or "I could sell it on Ebay". And I did none of the above. None.

The effort and stress of listing something on Ebay has obviously been too great for me to summon up the energy to do. Likewise for Freecycle. This gives me much guilt, because putting things into landfill when they could be recycled is BAD. BAD KA! BAD BAD BAD! I have thus been caught between feeling guilty if I threw it away, and feeling stressed if I didn't. Because Stuff Taking Up Space is getting to really stressful levels for me. I have all these craft materials! I need to put them somewhere! I'm running out of space!

I have finally said "enough!" (or "too much", really). Forget Ebay. Forget Freecycle. Forget them all. One phone call, and I have booked a Hard Rubbish collection. My hope is that people round about will take at least some things off the pile before it gets collected by the Local Council. Shove my guilt, the stress has just gotten TOO MUCH. Stuff it!

So. Hard rubbish. Today I've been going around the house gathering stuff and clearing away stuff. Hopefully my nephew will help me tomorrow to put heavy things outside on the kerb.

It will be good to get rid of it all.

Greetings flist!

We saw Wonder Woman yesterday. I cried through the whole thing. A little pleased with myself for remaining completely unspoiled except for no cats on Themyscira. I was rigorous about not clicking on a single link or cut tag and my flist is so thoughtful about using cuts, thank you! Gal Gadot is beyond glorious. This movie needs a Best Picture Oscar nomination. Etta reminds me of [profile] lorie945. I actually finally have a superhero movie I love :-)

H and I are leaving for the beach in a couple hours, I just got new tires put on the front so Catbus is good to go.

I was sitting in the Les Schwab tire store when I saw the news on tv about that asshole Spicer resigning. I had no self control, I just burst into loud guffaws and couldn't stop for about five minutes.

Yesterday morning Harry tried to pee on some clothes in [personal profile] hanarobi's room. I thwarted him and he ran outside. I followed him to watch him pee in the dirt and spend about five minutes ostentatiously covering it up with a pile of leaves.

So, the [livejournal.com profile] sshg_promptest has completed, and the reveals are up.
I made two items for the same prompt, because it was such a fabulous prompt:

Threads. As light as gossamer or spun into a thread; holding things together at the seams; yarn woven into a tapestry or the warmest blanket; twisted into string, a cord, a rope. Threads of memory or of hair. Loose threads. (prompt by [livejournal.com profile] eoforth)

First piece: Interlocking LivesSSHG Jewellery
On Etsy (more pictures, and yes, you can buy it!!!)

Second piece: Woven Threads
On Etsy (more pictures, and you can buy this one too!)

Harry and MF kinda sorta hanging out together on the patio. They had a snooze though Harry kept an eye on him. Actually this morning Harry achieved a sneak attack on MF, he was so pleased.

Three more pics of Harry beneath the cut.

Books finished:
Speak Its Name by Kathleen Jowitt. I think I wrote about this mid-read but I've finished it now and enjoyed it a lot. I hope we find out more about Lydia and Colette. Their first date had my stomach all nervous just like on a first date :-) Not to mention this was a finalist this year for the Betty Trask Award and Prize, a yearly award that celebrates first novels written by authors under the age of 35, who reside in a current or former Commonwealth nation.
The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. So sad. Plus I got confused by the interweaving of the narratives but I think I wasn't paying as much attention as I might have been. I can see rereading this for the beauty of the language but oh the characters made me sad.
Waking Up: A Guide to Spirituality Without Religion by Sam Harris.

Meme gacked from everyone :-)

Mountain or beach person?
Beach please. Preferably with lots of trees and mountains nearby. But yeah, give me the beach, preferably of the cold stormy kind rather than the tropical kind though really, that's kind of picky. The ocean is good.

Coffee or tea?
Both though they are for separate purposes and times of day. Coffee is for first thing in the morning.

smoothies or milkshakes?
None since they're all pretty much carb bombs so a no-go for me. If I had my druthers, however, I would vote for the bubble tea type smoothies I used to get, it's the bubbles :-)

vanilla or chocolate?
Vanilla. No question.

sun or moon?
Moon. The sun gets too warm for me to warm to it very often.

home body or traveler?
Hard to say. I love to travel and I love to stay home. Having said that, I am getting ridiculously excited about moving to Laramie for many reasons -- but one of them is that I get to move to a new place. I haven't moved in so many years and it's built into my DNA from being an Air Force brat that I GOTTA GO, so moving somewhere, and especially to my best friend's house, is pretty much the most exciting thing that's happened in years. One of my post-move dreams is for me and [personal profile] hanarobi to load up the car and do a wandering US/Canada road trip visiting various flisties.

Sunrise or sunset.
Don't know. Think both are probably pretty darned inspiring.

Mermaid or fairy?
Hmm. I have always found fairies faintly silly so I guess it's mermaids?

Sun or rain?
A nice mix of both, with the balance tilted more strongly to coolness, cloudiness and rain. With occasional sun breaks that make us all go, "So that's the sun! Nice looking! Warm!" And then the clouds come back and we all go, "That's better."

watercolor or acrylic?
Don't know. I don't paint myself and don't think I have particular druthers in either direction. However, in my coloring app on my ipad I usually post-process pics with a watercolor filter so there's that lol.

Eep! It's Monday and [personal profile] hanarobi is coming tonight!

Harry, get ready to have TWO fooders in the house!
Midnight Fluff (currently known as Summer Slick on account of having done a huge shed), prepare to meet a second fooder in this house!

Strive to never be ashamed of any of your works, for you don't get to choose what you are remembered by.

(This brought to you by thoughts of Josette Simon and Arthur Conan Doyle.)

Not so random happies:

  1. [personal profile] hanarobi is coming Monday for 10 days!
  2. [personal profile] hanarobi and I are going to the ocean for three nights while she's here at our favorite place, The Sandpiper, in one of our favorite rooms.
  3. I'm watching Bahubali 2 on youtube at work.
  4. It's Friday.
  5. I'm pretty much aaaaall by myself in my little work area today. T brought in about a million donuts (she's coming up on her 10-year anniversary here and is very generous with the vittles). I've managed to only take one (devil's food) and I'll eat it tonight as a dessert.
  6. I get five vacation days starting next Wednesday!
  7. Inadvertently killing two birds with one stone though noone died. Area rug from World Market. I got this for my bedroom to cover a bit of the really nasty carpet. It has lots of texture, including little wooden and metal rings. To me it's an area rug. To Harry, it's a giant cat toy to roll up, attack and shred.

Happy Froday everyone! My plans this weekend are vacuuming, washing floors and making sure [personal profile] hanarobi's bed has clean sheets.

ETA: Clau-Clau-Claudia! What kind of crack fic do you want this time, oh [personal profile] claudia603? You are our muse and we will write more crack for you next week.

Thank you all for bucking me up yesterday, so appreciated. ♥

A miracle has occurred this week. There has been a traffic revision in Tacoma (they've been working on many projects in the area for as long as I've been working in Tacoma and that's 2013).

And it's a good one! It cleared up the daily snarl by the Tacoma Dome. It's a GOOD traffic revision.

Really, I thought they were mythical ...

I'm not hiding, just drowning in move details! Wonderfully, nearly everything on page 1 of my 3-page Task List of Doom is now finished and crossed out. Onward to page 2... much accomplished, much more to be done.

I *think* I may have set a record (at least with me) in being on hold on the phone, waiting for U.S. Postal Service customer service to come on the line so I could straighten out a glitch in my change of address submission -- 1 hr., 6 minutes on hold. Have any of you waited longer than that?

My brain hit a wall over the Fourth of July holiday and refused to process anything connected to the move for several days. To give myself a break, I... wrote about hobbits, yay! I now have two chapters nearly finished for a 'short and sweet' Cormallen story that I tried to start months ago. Thank goodness the writing Muse hadn't been packed away in a carton yet, unable to communicate.

How To Derail KA's Plans For The Day

Jul. 10th, 2017 04:41 pm
kerravonsen: Fiction/Poetry/Art: it's cheaper than therapy (cheaper-than-therapy)
[personal profile] kerravonsen
This morning, at a bit after eight, my front door bell rang. There was a parcel at the door (and a van driving away). So I brought the parcel in, and opened it. Aha! The knitting machine I had bought on Ebay! I unboxed it, assembled it, picked up the pinkish-purplish yarn that came with it, pulled up a browser window on Youtube and...

...Eight hours later...

I can haz one fingerless glove!
Using these instructions.
It is imperfect and uneven, but it does keep my hand warm. I made at least 6 attempts before I got all the way through the instructions without making an egregious mistake. (And I gave up on doing the ribbing altogether)
And, yes, that is what I have been doing all day. I haven't even had lunch, now that I think of it. Oops.
Still, I have a fingerless glove.
Mind you, there isn't enough left of the pinkish-purplish yarn to make another, so it is forever doomed to be a solo glove. Ah well.

ETA: 20:09

...Three hours later...

I have another glove. This one was done with the blue yarn which came with the knitting machine.
This glove is longer, and I did the (ribbed) thumb and (ribbed) cuff with hook-knitting rather than on the machine, because I felt that it gave me more control. And the thumb on this one looks a lot tidier.

Oh, it's past dinner time, isn't it?
