Back to Middle-earth Month 2017 Banner I Completed My Path

March is over and so is this year's Back to Middle-earth Month. This year's theme was a gameboard, with several paths to the center in order to "win" the game; I chose the Purple Path, and managed to complete it. Below is a round-up of my entries. Most are fanfic, but there is some non-fic, one artwork, and a recs list thrown in, as well as my "Act of Kindness", in which I offered to answer questions for people.

Full Moon The Man-in-the-Moon visits an old friend at a Merry Old Inn in Bree, while his doggy friends worry at home. (A Roverandom/LotR crossover, with a hint of Silm thrown in.)
The Rise and Fall of a Tyrant Lotho Sackville-Baggins was destined to grow up to rule the Shire...for a while. (A twelve drabble set)
The Advantages of Insomnia Bilbo spends a sleepless night in literary endeavor.
Concerning the Shire, Part One Tolkien gives us a lot of information about the society of the Shire, but only some of the particulars. Coming up with details is up to the author of the fanfic; here are a few of mine. (Part 1/?)
Concerning the Shire, Part Two: Education Tolkien gives us a lot of information about the society of the Shire, but only some of the particulars. Coming up with details is up to the author of the fanfic; here are a few of mine. (Part 2/? It will be continued.)
"Ungoliant and the Two Trees" Ungoliant attacks Laurelin and Telperion. (Art, mixed media)
Beyond the Dreams of Avarice "Bilbo went to sleep with that [song] in his ears, and it gave him very uncomfortable dreams. It was long after the break of day, when he woke up."-The Hobbit, "An Unexpected Party"- A drabble.
A Night By the High Hay Merry and Pippin take their sons on a camping expedition, and have an encounter.
Oldies But Goodies Rec list. These are works from authors who are either no longer in the fandom, or no longer write in the fandom very often.
Good husbandmen must moile & toile... Sam discovers much of the Gaffer's folk wisdom actually comes from a very old book.
Fruit and Flower Of the Sun and the Moon, in fifty-five words. (A dribble)
She Who Watches Adamanta knows that her time with her great-grandchildren will come to an end one day, and she must make the most of her time.
Rainy Day at Bag End Young Merry and Pippin are visiting Bag End, and face a dark and stormy morning.
Day After Day a Good Day Each part of the day has its own special blessings. (A four drabble set)
How May I Help You? I'll answer any question I can that will be helpful to the questioner in regards to the fandom. (This offer remains open even after B2MEM is over.)
The Perils of Perfection An essay on getting past the idea that your fanwork has to be "perfect."

I also found time to write and post a story for the [livejournal.com profile] lotr_community March Challenge, which was h/c with a particular herb assigned as the prompt.

Now I hope to find time to look at all the [livejournal.com profile] b2mem entries I didn't have time for during the month.

But first I have to get some seedlings out in the garden this afternoon, plus write up the minutes for the Friends of the Library, to which I somehow ended up as secretary. Also need to find today's Lent post and go to Knitting Circle this evening.

I hope everyone's having as pretty a day as we are!

B2MeM Prompt and Path: Purple path; Prompt--Act of Kindness, "Answer a question"
Format:Personal post
Genre: Act of Kindness
Rating: G
Warnings: n/a
Characters: n/a
Pairings: n/a
Creator’s Notes (optional): I thought and thought about what my act of kindness would be. It seemed this one might be the most useful.
Summary: I'll answer any question I can that will be helpful to the questioner in regards to the fandom.

One of the prompts for the Acts of Kindness on the 2017 Gameboard was "Answer a question for someone".

Or several someones. I don't claim to know everything, but I have 13 years of experience writing fanfic, and I do have a pretty good knowledge of hobbits and of The Lord of the Rings from years of reading. I do not have much knowledge of The Silmarillion, though I can perhaps point someone in the direction of an answer, if I don't have it.

So, if you have come upon a stumbling block in a story or simply need an answer to a question about canon, or hobbits in general, have at it.

This post will remain open as long as I continue getting questions!

ASK ME A QUESTION.

I've made a post over at [livejournal.com profile] b2memsupport for promoting your prompts!

http://b2memsupport.livejournal.com/29623.html?view=227255&style=mine#t227255

You can just comment with your unclaimed or mostly unclaimed prompts or even all your prompts if you want to!

Or you can go there to see if there's a prompt you missed finding; you might see something you want to claim after all!

And if you have not been doing B2MeM, then you might see something that will get you interested.

Back to Middle-earth month begins next week, but the preliminaries have already started! You can post or claim prompts now at [livejournal.com profile] b2mem! Every person who participates is given 15 "faire farthings" to spend at the Middle-earth Marketplace, the Tharbad's Greenway Spring Faire! You can spend one farthing to post a prompt, and one to claim a prompt, and earn one by reviewing stories when they begin to be posted. There are also other ways to earn more farthings!

I've already spent five of mine on the following:

Song prompt; the Sundering Sea
Dale and Erebor, toymakers for Bilbo's party
Rohan; Eomer and Merry write letters
The Shire; young Bilbo and his family
Tol Eressëa; who do the hobbits meet there?

More than one person can claim the same prompt! Just remember claiming costs you a farthing, too. You can find out all about it, and all the other rules at the comm!

Hello all!

Starting tomorrow, it looks as though I will be offline at the house for a while--I am not sure for how long--it could be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. I will try to go to the library to do stuff, but I will not be as available as I have been. Emails may pile up, and any posting will be intermittent at best. I am hoping my semi-absence will be brief, but since I'm not sure, I am going to try and set things up in advance.

I am going to post the [livejournal.com profile] lotr_community April challenge today, but in order to expedite things, I will make it so that you do not have to wait for me to send out prompts.

I suggest that if you have any questions you send them to Cathleen (or to Dawn if they are of a technical nature).

I'm sorry this is happening right in the middle of B2MeM. I hope to have time to catch up on your stories during Reading Week. And I may have time to finish a few stories and post them from the library.

In more pleasant news: I got to see TH:AUJ today. My son got me the DVD (It's the combo pack that includes the DVD, the Blu-ray, and the Ultra-violet whatever that is.) and he and his girlfriend and her kids came over to watch it with me and have lunch; they just left a few minutes ago. It was a wee bit more hectic than watching it at the theater, but still, lots of fun. And I am so proud of Sophie--she behaved beautifully with the kids, and we only had to shut her in the bedroom while we ate lunch. Miss Belladonna mostly hid.

I'd also like to signal boost the following community. It is having a "prompt fest" to which you can request plot-bunnies for stories set in The Hobbit. They are accepting gen prompts as well as pairing prompts, and have several of those requested already. You can post your prompt requests between now and March 26. The great part? You do not have to claim a prompt to write in order to request a prompt! (Of course, they hope you will, but it is not a requirement.) So if there is a special story you'd like to see written, but you don't think you have time to write yourself, this is a great thing to take part in!

Here's the link to check it out!
