dreamflower: gandalf at bag end (bag end 2 by <lj user="danae_b">)
It's been a long time since I made a post. I am determined to start posting more often, and am going to try to make a post every day this month.

However here it is almost bedtime, and I had yet to post. So have a pic of Miss Belladonna Took on our front porch.

Bella 1

Also, finally finished and posted my [livejournal.com profile] lotr_community fic, Nothing So Mortifying, in which Frodo helps Merry through a difficult time. It's a day late, but at least it's done!

I hope to be a little more informative tomorrow!

One of the Christmas gifts I got this year was Walking with Frodo, "a devotional journey through The Lord of the Rings", which teases out some of the lessons we can learn from the characters' journey. I thought a little portion of this devotional was appropriate for today:

Because Frodo is humble, he is willing to serve. He knows he doesn't have all the answers. He isn't even sure he'll accomplish the task. But he's willing, even though it breaks his heart to think of all that will be lost, knowing he might never, ever return to life as it was before he left the Shire. Little does he imagine the glorious outcome of his actions--the great celebration "at the end of all things," when Middle-earth is restored and the true King is enthroned in Gondor and the people rejoice in victory!"

"The apostle
Peter wrote (from personal experience "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time." (1 Peter: 5-6)"

"This is the lesson of Frodo, making his way into the heart of Sauron's kingdom: Humble service is the key to victory."

Today is Hobbit Day!

I'm going to celebrate by wearing my hobbit feet to the library knitting circle tonight! How are you going to celebrate?

Here are some links to stories about The Birthday I have posted in the past:

The Birthday: SR 1402
Circle of Joy
A Long-Expected Departure
Birthday Morning
A Little Hobbit's Big Birthday
On the Evening of Frodo's Fifth Birthday
A Birthday on the Blessed Isle

Hobbits Forever!!

I have at last broken through my block on this story, and expect that it will move along more regularly now.

This is a reading of one of my fics, "Birthday Morning", originally posted on this date in 2006. It's Frodo's POV on the morning of a very special and solemn occasion.

For the [livejournal.com profile] read_lotr_aloud special Hobbit Day readings, I've decided to do two readings. The first is

Due to various happenings in RL, I did not get the chance to finish and post this on my actual birthday, so consider it a belated birthday mathom to all my friends!

Rating: G
Summary: Bilbo and Frodo celebrate one of their birthdays in the West.
Author's Notes: There are a lot of references in here to my story "Ancestress", as well as to my story with [livejournal.com profile] pandemonium_213, "The Prisoner and the Hobbit"! You don't need to have read it to understand this story, but it might be more fun to spot some of the references. (BTW, Pande, I borrowed another of your characters! *grin*).

While I am quite sure that most of the folks on my flist have probably read this one, since it was posted in 2006, I just finished it for the first time, and am just blown away by it!

It's by [livejournal.com profile] mariole, and it's called By Life or Death. It's an AU in which Strider and the hobbits encounter a LIVE troll right after they found the petrified ones.

An epic battle with the monster and some brilliant h/c, especially for Aragorn and Frodo (though others come in for their share as well), some wonderful angst, lots of love, loyalty and friendship and terrific characterizations of all five heroes (I'm blown away by her Aragorn, as I don't think I'd ever seen her write him before; I'm used to her wonderful hobbits)--well, I'm still a little breathless.

So, maybe if you are new you haven't read this; if it sounds like it might appeal, I highly recommend it! And perhaps if you vaguely remember it from the past, you might want to renew your acquaintance with it--it is certainly worth a re-read!

Alas!

Poor Polymer!Frodo, I knew him well. I returned from my knitting circle tonight to discover he was assassinated. It appears to have been a conspiracy. Miss Belladonna Took threw him from his high place upon my desk and then, to make certain he was dead, Miss Sophie ate most of his head, leaving only a few dark curls as evidence...

I thought I had a picture of him, but cannot find it. However, he is the default icon for [livejournal.com profile] lotr_crafts if you want to see what he once looked like.

*sigh*

In 2006 I began posting a silly little crack!fic at [livejournal.com profile] wee_hobbits. I posted two parts and then got stuck. Well, the other day I got unstuck, and finished it for [livejournal.com profile] shirebound's gift folder. Here is Part 3; there is one more part and a short epilogue to go. I included links to Parts 1 and 2, since after six years, it's not likely anyone actually remembers it...

I'm off to work--but first:

four hobbits and a waggon

HOBBITS

How we love them!
Our small heroes:
Burglar, Ringbearers, Knights of Gondor and Rohan,
Banishing the dark with their bright spirits and brave hearts.
It doesn't bear
Thinking about a world without them,
So dear to our hearts!

Happy Birthday, Bilbo and Frodo! AND
Happy World Hobbit Day!

Thank you, Professor, for writing down these words: "In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit."

I've updated "Ancestress" over at [livejournal.com profile] troubledtribble:

"Ancestress"--Chapter Fifty-nine: Watched Over

And I updated "Eleventy-one Years: Too Short a Time" yesterday:

Chapter 14: Tidings: An Interlude at Many Paths to Tread
Chapter 14: Tidings: An Interlude at Stories of Arda
Chapter 14: Tidings: An Interlude at FF.net

The grim news of the Shire's plight spreads; aid is on the way, will it be in time? (I have upped the rating a notch, for angst.)
