That was a lovely chapter - I loved Saradoc's ploy to teach Frodo riding without Merry knowing.

I'm working on catching up on this, BTW, and enjoying it thoroughly. :)

I am finding that I really enjoy reading about the Big People's impressions as they first learn about hobbits, as is covered a little bit in this chapter. (Of course, the embarrassing little kid stories are fun, too.)

I find that mixing in the flashbacks is helping me to flesh out the impressions--the hobbits and Men are constantly learning new things about one another, and about the four Travellers as well, even though they are not in the story.
