Dreamflower's Mathom-house

While I am quite sure that most of the folks on my flist have probably read this one, since it was posted in 2006, I just finished it for the first time, and am just blown away by it!

It's by mariole, and it's called By Life or Death. It's an AU in which Strider and the hobbits encounter a LIVE troll right after they found the petrified ones.

An epic battle with the monster and some brilliant h/c, especially for Aragorn and Frodo (though others come in for their share as well), some wonderful angst, lots of love, loyalty and friendship and terrific characterizations of all five heroes (I'm blown away by her Aragorn, as I don't think I'd ever seen her write him before; I'm used to her wonderful hobbits)--well, I'm still a little breathless.

So, maybe if you are new you haven't read this; if it sounds like it might appeal, I highly recommend it! And perhaps if you vaguely remember it from the past, you might want to renew your acquaintance with it--it is certainly worth a re-read!

In 2006 I began posting a silly little crack!fic at wee_hobbits. I posted two parts and then got stuck. Well, the other day I got unstuck, and finished it for shirebound's gift folder. Here is Part 3; there is one more part and a short epilogue to go. I included links to Parts 1 and 2, since after six years, it's not likely anyone actually remembers it...

Over at great_tales they've had an informal fic exchange going. Here's the one I wrote for labourslamp, who requested a bit of fanon-busting. Be warned, these are not the hobbits you are used to, LOL!

Author’s notes: labourslamp's prompt was "Bust your favorite (or least favorite) fanon."  So I set out to do that, beginning with one I know she likes to bust, and busting one of my own favorites, as well as a couple of others, plus I threw in a bit of obscure and discarded info from the History of Middle-earth which I won't identify. Have fun guessing.

I've posted a little ficlet at wee_hobbits:

I often dream of hobbits, but it's very, very rare that any of those dreams turn into actual stories. Mostly they don't make any sense at all when I wake up and actually think about them.

But last night I had this dream, and it worked out quite beautifully, as I dreamed of this little scene with Sam and one of his children. It needed very little embellishment to turn it into a real story.

I also had fun making a little illustration to go with it.

The February lotr_community Challenges are up. Our elements were gapfillers--and mine was to do the POV of one of the Ithilien Rangers when Frodo and Sam were captured by Faramir and his Men.

Encounter in Ithilien The story is in 3 parts with an Epilogue, and the link leads to Part I. Each part has a link at the bottom to the next one.
