Just one thing tonight...
Jun. 6th, 2015 09:38 pmThe DH and I watched TH:Bot5A tonight after supper.
This time I noticed something I hadn't before: PJ drew some very interesting subtle parallels between Thorin and Thranduil. Subtle characterization is not usually his strong suit, but this was well done.
Alfrid is still an annoying waste of film.
And from the time Bilbo shows up in Laketown with the Arkenstone, I was absolutely riveted to the screen. So many feels.
And afterwards, I'm a wreck. *sniff* "The Last Goodbye" just does that to me. *sigh*
((hugs Bilbo))

Date: 2015-06-09 02:20 am (UTC)We've watched BOFA this week too. :) Fun fun. I love Thorin and Bilbo together. There's something so beautiful about Bilbo's relationship with the dwarves. I'm wanting to write a bonding moment kind of experience between Frodo and Gimli for that reason...I think he was way played for comic relief in the LOTR films, but I think Gimli wasn't just the class clown in the books or in what their reality would have been. He wouldn't have been allowed to become a member of the Fellowship if he were. I know Pippin and Merry weren't seasoned warriors and were allowed to go, but clearly they were devoted to Frodo, and I think that's why Elrond, against his judgment, ended up permitting it.
*hugs*
