I wanted to do some writing and posting this week, but right now I'm only able to use my iPad for anything much, and for some reason it's logged me out of some sites and won't let me log back in. Luckily LJ is not one of them.

For days my desktop has been alternatively freezing up to the point of me having to shut down, telling me a page is not responding due to "long-running script" or simply telling me that a page is not loading for no particular reason. It took me nearly two hours just to look at my lovely Silm B'day cards a while ago. I am SO frustrated.

Tried twice to get into Norton for help, but the page freezes up on me while I'm trying; does anyone know their help phone number??

This is my third attempt to post this. Hopefully it will "take" this time. *crosses fingers*

Just a thought, but have you tried a different browser? I find the Mozilla Firefox is much faster to load pages than Internet Explorer (although Firefox won't let me access Gmail *sigh*). Also, it could be a memory problem. My laptop was taking forEVER to load pages or word docs or even access the internet about a month ago. I took it in for service, and the geekguys increased the memory; it works like a charm now.

I know it's frustrating. Good luck!

Okay, so their website is not especially helpful if you can't get online. They don't list an 800 number for a help line but have you fill out a form so they can "access your account information" and then send you the number of your local agent, which seems just ridiculously non-intuitive and nonsensical for people who are having computer trouble that precludes them using the Internet, but here's the URL: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/contact-phone

I googled and found several websites listing 800 numbers supposedly for Norton:

1-800-745-6034
1-800-745-6048

I have no idea if either of those are valid. I suppose you could always try calling the Geek Squad or a local computer store.

I hope you can get things working again soon!

You can get there eventually when you use their site map, just a tip. :)

That sounds really annoying. I hope you'll find a solution quickly! *hugs*

This brings me to asking when you did last defragment your drives, and run the disk cleanup system tool. When doing the latter, it's also important to not only run the regular default setting, but also the "system cleanup" which appears once you have opened the program, chosen the drive, and let it calculate the data. Both is the most regular cause of computers and laptops freezing or being horribly slow.
If you need to do both, start with the disk cleanup and run a defrag afterwards. Both also help with memory issues if there isn't enough memory, although an increase does make a lovely difference, as shirebound says! :o)

Shirebound, weird that you're having problems with gmail; I use it only very rarely, but have no problems with Firefox. I had to restore (I hope this is the proper term in English) my firefox currently, since I was schlepping old detritus from its first incarnation with me through my saved profiles. It had been rather slow (in comparison) before, but now it's running quick and easy again. Have you tried that already?

You're right, I can access Gmail on Firefox now! Thanks so much for mentioning it.
