dreamflower: gandalf at bag end (bag end 2 by <lj user="danae_b">)

Today I posted my very first Harry Potter story. It's a little bunny I've been resisting for a long time, and finally I realized the only way out was to write it.

It's about Arthur Weasley, and is sort of an adventure story and sort of a character study. It takes place before Ron, Harry and the others go to Hogwarts.

The Temptation of Arthur Weasley
The summer before Ron's first term at Hogwarts, Arthur Weasley finds himself at the center of a criminal plot.

I also wanted to post it at AO3, but for some strange reason, no matter which way I tried to paste it, it stripped out all the line breaks. I tried both Rich Text and HTML. I tried to copy it directly from my file; I tried to copy it from the doc file at FFN; I even made a private post here at LJ, and copied that, both trying the HTML version and the Visual Editor. The only thing I did NOT try was typing it in directly! No matter what I did, I just ended up with a giant text wall of doom. Any other AO3-ers have any idea of what's up?

And speaking of LJ posts, would anyone rather read it here? I'd definitely put it behind a cut, as it's rather a lengthy one-shot.

All the other places I post are Tolkien-only.

Have you tried copy/pasting from the ff.net preview? That usually works for me.

I think AO3 is set up to import from fanfiction.net (and maybe others?). I vaguely recall, years ago, being able to import my Fairy Tales from ff..., but not from HASA (unsurprising, with HASA's special coding).

Have you tried to copy & paste it from your doc (or whatever) file into the Rich Text Editor of AO3? This usually works well, although sometimes parts in italics or so aren't copied. This should also work from a story already posted at LJ.
I've just tried it with your story on FFnet simulating to add a chapter to one of my stories on AO3, and it worked in the preview.
(To copy from FFnet, just change the URL on top to the mobile version, meaning delete everything left to .fanfiction.net and add an m, so the URL looks like m.fanfiction.net/ xxxx )

My usual procedure is this: I'm mostly too lazy to type all the code but dislike code copied over from my office document into my AO3 file. So I copy anything longer from my office doc into the HTML editor of LJ, switch to Rich Text Editor, and either hit preview or post it privately. Then I copy the story text from there, and paste it into the Rich Text Editor at AO3.

Edit: I don't know any better place for a story about Arthur, but consider posting it to your LJ as well. I haven't been active in the Potter fandom for a few years now, but to my knowledge a lot still happens at LJ.

The last time I tried the import from ffnet was wonky and needed much editiing afterwards, so this would be the last option I'd choose.
