Close call!

I had a really close call this afternoon.

I decided to do some decorative painting on the guest room wall. I moved stuff out of the way, got out my paints and the stepladder, and started. I was very nearly finished when I heard the dogs barking and whining, and I realized the DH was home from work. So I started to get down from the ladder and it collapsed, dumping me on the floor. I hit pretty hard, and whacked the back of my head and my right elbow, not to mention my rear end.

He came in and made sure I was all right, and got me off the floor. I was pretty stiff and sore, and I have a huge bruise on my elbow and a knot on my head. He wouldn't let me make supper so we went out to eat at Cracker Barrel, and he says I had probably better not count on doing much tomorrow because I will probably be too stiff and sore.

It was a miracle I didn't hit my head on the corner of the desk I landed next to.

And--this is wierd--there is a chest against the wall. I had a cloth on it, and there was a porcelain ewer and basin and a fancy doll on top of it, along with a clock and a box of tissues. Somehow, just like the magic trick, I pulled that cloth completely off when I fell, without disturbing any of those items. Now, if I had tried, I could *never* have done that.

But it was really scary.

Yow, that *is* scary! Try to take a hot bath and an ibuprofen before bed tonight. So glad you're all right!

Oh goodness! I'm glad you're all right! That's one reason I'm scared of ladders. You just can't trust 'em. Which room were you painting? The one I stayed in or the other one?

I'm glad you weren't hurt worse than you were. Arnica salve is great for aches and bruises if you can find it.

That was close indeed! You were very lucky. Ladders can be very dangerous. Hope you aren't too sore from the fall tomorrow. You may need to relax all day tomorrow and allow others to wait on you hand and foot. (That could be good.)

That sounds wonderful, except I'm not sure I could get up out of the tub afterwards!!

The ibuprofen--definitely, as the DH has already ordered me to.

So am I. It's the kind of thing I'm always afraid is going to happen, but yet don't quite really believe it, if you know what I mean.

It was the one that used to be my Mom's room, across the hall. It's really turned into a neat guest room now--*hint*hint*

Friend of mine makes a concoction called "bruise juice" that I think has arnica in it. Unfortunately, I don't have any at the time. *sigh*

You know, I really was not all that worried about the ladder, it was only a short step-ladder, and I thought that even if I did fall off, it wouldn't be too bad. I was wrong.

*sigh* The DH has to work, so I won't have anyone to wait on me, though the idea certainly has merit. Maybe I can persuade him to call in...

Goodness, but you were lucky! Well, not lucky to fall, but lucky not to seriously hurt yourself. It's a good thing you have your own king there to treat you. I'm sure the DH would make Aragorn proud.

Oh, I know it was lucky it wasn't worse. I *am* very sore today, and am trying to take it easy, though I will have to drive to the bank and the pharmacy sometime this afternoon.

That is definitely what counts! My back hurts; fortunately my head seems okay today, but my elbow is incredibly sensitive, and completely black and blue.

Ibuprofen. Then a hot bath, and maybe an icepack. Also, hobbits. Hobbits are always good for pain. I'm so glad that fall didn't end as badly as it could have, dear.

Actually, no, I haven't. Sometimes my e-mail account has such a lovely delay before I see my e-mails. It's not at all unusual for me to see e-mails from you a good half day after you e-mailed it to me. I did get two e-mails from you this morning, both of which were in reply to my e-mails.

Wow, be careful on that stepladder! And I agree---don't use it while home alone. So glad you were okay and didn't even have minor injuries beyond bruising.
