Jul. 27th, 2006 03:51 pmI just took a Lortab, so I will probably be incoherent in a few minutes, but--
1. IV Potassium is the pits; it feels like sticking your arm in a fire ant bed.
2. Why does everyone have to comment on my veins? It's not *my* fault they can't find them...
3. It is possible to OD on House & Garden TV.
4. Don't watch the Food Network when you are not being allowed to eat.
5. You know you're obsessed with LotR when you call for Gandalf as you go under anesthesia. (That's what the DH said I did...)
6. *clicking ruby slippers* "There's no place like home...there's no place like home..."

Date: 2006-07-27 09:31 pm (UTC)2. Aren't those failed IV-insertion-attempts PAINFUL?! After my kidney biopsy they kept offering me pain medication, and I was thinking "my arm hurts more than my back does!"
3. Same is true of History channel specials on various topics associated with the DaVinci Code. 0:-)
4. *hugs again*
5. LOL!!!
6. Welcome back!

Date: 2006-07-27 09:51 pm (UTC)2. They didn't believe me when I told them my left arm veins hide when a needle is near. I told them if they had to stick me in the left arm, to not warm me ahead of time. They warned me. Veins fled. The nurse said, "You weren't kidding!" I felt rather smug at that point, but refrain from saying "Told you so!" I think.
3. And Discovery, TLC, History Channel, Food Network...
4. I didn't have this problem. 'Course I wasn't thinking about the food, more about watching it being cooked. That's always entertainment for me!
5. Love it! "I'm not obsessed... GANDALF!"

I have chicken-veins too. Every time I go in for a blood draw I hunt out the one tech who seems to be able to fool them into staying near the surface...

Date: 2006-07-28 01:32 am (UTC)OD on H&G? Yes, I think that is possible. Especially when you find yourself sitting up watching "Design on a Dime" at 1:00 am on a weekday.
You called for Gandalf? LOL Bet the drs got a kick out of that. :D

Date: 2006-07-28 01:47 am (UTC)2. Medical personnel are there to poke, prod and make comments on your body and bodily functions. It's what brings them joy in life. Think of it as your chance to be a giving person and offer them fulfillment.
3. Not if you don't have cable, it wouldn't be. :)
4. Probably not a good idea.
5. LOL. Yes, that would be true.
6. So true..so true...wishing you a speedy recovery. {{{{{hugs}}}} to dreamflower

LOL, Before one of my operations the doctor asked how I was doing and I told him I hadn't had the surgery yet *snort*

Date: 2006-07-29 08:34 am (UTC)You know, if you'd been in my town when that happened you'd come to my bed ward. I would have taken very good care of you there even if I'm not a nurse.

Date: 2006-07-31 12:33 pm (UTC)2. Well, apparently I was somewhat dehydrated, which made it worse.
3. Yup. And the way they had the TV, you had to cycle through every single channel--you couldn't change just the number, or even go backwards.
4. Usually that's me too. But not this time. I had 3 actual meals in 5 days. NOT hobbity!!!
5. Apparently that's what I did, LOL!

Date: 2006-07-31 12:44 pm (UTC)I love Good Eats. But I was in the hospital 5 days, and I only had 3 meals. Watching Rachel Ray was torture!

Date: 2006-07-31 12:48 pm (UTC)LOL! Yep. At least I was waking up to Simply Quilts! Although it could be disconcerting when I drifted off to Landscaper's Challenge.
The DH said the anesthetist gave him a funny look when I did that...

Date: 2006-07-31 12:53 pm (UTC)2. You're right, of course. Even my own husband was watching in fascination.
3. This hospital did have cable. But you had to cycle through every channel to change--you couldn't go backwards, or go straight to a number. It made for some strange channel surfing.
4. Nope.
5. *nods vigorously*
