Don’t anyone have a heart attack or anything, but I’ve written a little something in another fandom! It was a tiny little bunny that would occasionally try to nibble at me from time to time, but I was ignoring it very well, up until last night’s episode of LOST. And now I just couldn’t resist it. Take a good look everyone, because it probably won’t ever happen again.

INTERVIEW

After dancing her way to the chair, she lowers herself into it slowly, breathing hard, and fanning her face. She gives an engaging grin to the audience--Ellen is the picture of casual elegance in her red crosstrainers, black jeans, and blue cable-knit sweater over a crisp white shirt.

She laughingly calms the audience enough to begin the intro for the day’s show. “We’ve got a great line-up here today, folks! Our musical guest, Canada’s darling, k.d. lang will be here--” (wild applause) “and remember a few weeks ago, the little girl who was saved from the burning house by her dog? We have little Steffi Black here with her mom and her dog Sirius--” (more applause) “and to start things off with a bang, we have former hobbit Merry Brandybuck from ’Lord of the Rings’, and Russell Crowe’s sidekick ‘Pockets’ in last year’s re-make of ‘Hatari’ which won him a nomination for best supporting actor-- Dominic Monaghan, who is starring in a new movie, opening this Friday, ‘Oceanic Flight 815’!” (very wild applause).

To the music of DriveSHAFT’s “You All Everybody”, Dom dances onto the stage, and over to greet Ellen. He’s wearing a DriveSHAFT concert tee and faded ripped jeans. He sits in the chair and gives a grin to the audience, which goes crazy.

Ellen: “It’s good to have you here, Dom.”

Dom: “It’s always good to be here, Ellen. You’re looking pretty good!”

Ellen: (chuckling) “Thanks, you flatterer you! And you look as cute as ever! You have the cutest little cheeks! I’ve always wanted to pinch them!”

Dom: (laughing) “Have you now? Well, I wouldn’t do this for anyone but you--but--(he leans towards her, presenting her with his profile)--here, have a go, love!”

Ellen: (giving an arch look to the audience first, she reaches up and takes his cheek between her fingers.) “You adorable hobbit you!”

Dom: (laughs again) “Well, that’s me, adorable!” (He grins at the audience and wiggles his eyebrows.)

Ellen: “You’ve been a very busy fellow in the last few years since you were Merry Brandybuck in ‘Lord of the Rings’.

Dom: “I have. I have to say it’s a role that brought me a lot of attention. I’d never have been cast as ‘Pockets’ without it.

Ellen: “Now that’s a movie I never would have thought would be re-made, but Ron Howard did a great job with that!”

Dom: “He did. He was a really good director to work with. And it was a great experience working with Russell Crowe. And of course, a lot of fun to work with Sean Bean again. The animals were amazing, and I really enjoyed shooting on location in Africa.”

Ellen: “But now you’re starring in ‘Oceanic Flight 815’, about the tragic plane crash in 2004.”

Dom: “Yes, I play the rock star, Charlie Pace, from DriveSHAFT.”

Ellen: “Let’s look at this clip:”

(The clip shows an emotional encounter between Charlie and his brother Liam, as Liam encourages Charlie to go into drug rehab, and ends with Charlie storming off to catch his ill-fated plane.)

Ellen: “That’s amazing! I can’t get over the resemblance between the two of you! That’s without any make-up?”

Dom: (nodding) “Uncanny, isn’t it!”

Ellen: (to audience) “Look at this, folks!” ( a split-screen picture is shown on the screen behind Ellen, showing Charlie in a concert on the left, and Dom in a recent publicity shoot, on the right)

Dom: “Charlie was a very interesting person to portray. Even though he struggled with addiction, he didn’t have the typical rock star over-the-top ego. He was really rather shy. And he was very religious. I talked to his old parish priest when I was researching the part.”

Ellen: “It was a real tragedy. He was on the verge of a comeback, wasn’t he?”

Dom: “Yes.”

Ellen: “Well, I suppose that he’s made the comeback after all, because they have released a new CD of DriveSHAFT’s Greatest Hits.” (She reaches over to the table next to her and holds up the CD.) “And all of you folks in the audience will receive a copy!” (Wild applause from the audience)

Ellen: “So, six major movies under your belt now; what are your plans for the future?”

Dom: “My mate Billy Boyd and me are hoping to do a buddy movie…”

Ellen: (grinning) “So the two hobbits together again! And isn’t Peter Jackson scheduled to begin shooting ‘The Hobbit’ next year? I hear some of the cast of ‘Lord of the Rings’ will be coming back?

Dom: (laughing) “Well, Sir Ian will be playing Gandalf again, of course. And Hugo Weaving and Andy Serkis will be playing Elrond and Gollum again. There was some talk of Billy playing the younger version of Bilbo, but that was more of a time commitment than he wanted to make--he’s a family man now, you know.”

Ellen: “But the rest of you won’t be back?”

Dom: (laughs) “Well, not in the roles we played before! But Pete invited any of us who wanted, to come do cameos--the plan’s for most of us to meet in New Zealand for a few weeks. It’ll be great fun to get together again!”

Ellen: “So, you won’t be a hobbit again, then?”

Dom: (shrugs amiably) “I don’t know, do I? Pete’s keeping what we’re doing under wraps!”

Ellen: “And I hear you’re going to do an animated feature for Pixar soon?”

Dom: “Yes, work’s already started on ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ actually. I’m Jack’s voice. It’s quite fun doing voice work.”

Ellen: “I know. I got to be a fish once!” She grins for a minute, and then using the voice of ‘Dory’ says “Do I know you?” (Laughter from the audience.)

Dom: (looking drolly blank) “I don’t think so. Have I seen you somewhere before?” Both they and the audience laugh at this.

Ellen: “Well, we have to go to a commercial break now. When we come back, little Steffi Black and her amazing dog, Sirius!”

EDIT:There are some spoilers for last night's episode in the comments!

This piece really has that surreal 'Lost' feeling to it! I really enjoyed it, just after I watched the Charlie-centric ep of last night!

Ooo, good use of the material from last night's episode about the fanfare after the plane was lost/found, and the greatest hits album. Loved the 'no makeup' line!

(And it's not really another fandom, not really)

I think LOST has been back to great again, this last half of the year. Although after next week, I'm not sure if I'll be watching it or not. They promised us!

Ellen, Lost and LOTR. Three of my favorites all rolled into one! This was great.

Now let's hope they keep Charlie alive longer than next week!

Cool little crossover! And there's that screenplay he and Billy are STILL working on! :)

I have been thinking darkly this morning about Charlie, and the thought suddenly occurred to me: do we really have any reason to believe Desmond is telling the truth? That in his visions Charlie is going to die, or Charlie has to die to save everyone else? What consecrates Desmond (as breathtakingly adorable as he can be) to such a degree that we should accept him as a prophet? Mr. Eko had more credibility, in terms of spiritual awareness. What if Desmond is an Other, and Charlie, like Locke (apparently) is somebody Special?

This is really adorable! I'm glad you were able to get it written :) Also, I think there's a big difference in writing something for something that interests you, and in a full-time fandom investment! The latter, I don't see this being. *grin*

OMG, that was a hoot! You have Dom/Charlie nailed, lol.

So, you also remember that "promise", eh? I accidentally stopped watching LOST about halfway through the 2nd season because I got bored with it; there were NO CHARLIE episodes. Garnet Took would review for me at times, but it seemed to me I wasn't missing anything. Now they've had, what -- two Charlie-centered episodes so far this season? Three? Now they're using him to save a sinking ship. I was miffed about that "promise" in that Dom got very little screen time last year. I was actually hoping they'd kill Charlie off this year so that Dom could focus his career on some other projects.

LOL, wouldn't that bit about The Hobbit be fantastic, though? Ellen is cool; she has such a whacky sense of humor. :-)

This is so funny, and a bit mind-blowing, trying to picture the whole thing. What a great idea.

LOL! Cool beans, Barbara! You didn't stray too far from LOTR ;P I sure wish Dom and Billy would do a buddy movie. They're awesome together.

OK, I love this! You totally captured Dom *and* Ellen! LOL

That was excellent and frankly, I enjoyed it far more than I enjoyed the last three seasons of LOST.

That was fun. Thanks for letting me know where to find it. I don't know how, but I missed this completely the first go 'round.
