I actually can't think of one. There are some characters I don't love, but not ones that everyone else loves. For example, I can't stand Denethor, but I don't think "everyone" loves him.

4. The character you love that everyone else hates:

Tom Bombadil

5. The character you used to love but don't any longer:

Can't think of one. Not any of the main characters, anyway.

I'd take this meme too, but my answer to #3 would piss off too many good friends... LOL!

I really did try to think of one for #3, but the truth is that I am inordinately fond of all the Good Guys in the story, and you can't say "everyone" loves the Bad Guys. I know that there are some who dislike one or another of the Fellowship that everyone else likes. I don't really understand why, though. I really *love* all the hobbits, and I seem to see the Fellowship through hobbit eyes. As for other characters that come by the way, I find reason to like most of them. JRRT did such a good job of creating them. In his writing, even the bit players get personalities.

Tom Bombadil, aka Middle Earth Barney - I just can't like him. I try to see what people like about him, but I can't. He just annoys me.

Hm, now my answers...

#1 - Sam!

#2 - Pippin. He was a bit annoying at first, but I just fell in love with him in ROTK.

#3 - In Book 3 of TTT: Aragorn. He was just too in love with his sword. But I like him the rest of the time. If you're going by the movies, then quite a lot of people liked Gollum, and I just absolutely despise Gollum.

#4 - Can't think of any.

Well, I *can* see why some people find him annoying; the rhythm of his speech is infectious, and that can be irritating. But to me, he is a big mystery; he lives right on the hobbits' doorstep, so to speak, and they seem to know about him in Buckland and the Marish at least, for there are songs about him. Yet they really do not have a clue as to how powerful he is; they just think of him as a comic character. We are told he is a friend of Farmer Maggot, for one thing. And there is the whole Master of himself, but not of anything or anyone else--that's why the Ring has no power over him. In Harry Potter, when Dumbledore talks about what a perfectly happy content person would see in the Mirror--only a reflection, because he or she would not be desiring anything, that makes me think of Tom Bombadil. He's very zen, I guess, LOL!

Even in the movies, I never *liked* Gollum. I felt sorry for him, and found him occasionally amusing, but I never *liked* him. In the books he was a nasty little creature even *before* he found the Ring, and in the movies, he was even nastier than in the books, with his scheming to oust Sam...
