Yuletide recs!
Dec. 31st, 2007 08:44 pmSome of you know that I took part in
yuletide this year, at the urging of
danae_b, and I had a splendid time. The reveal is not until tomorrow, but it seems traditional to make some recs before the reveal takes place.
The list is not terribly long--I've just been sampling the various fandoms--I never knew that fandom *existed* for some of these!! Anyway, recs behind the cut:
First of all, the one for *ME*, about Ellis Peters' Brother Cadfael. It is so perfect, it really feels like canon.
Cadfael
Not Strain'd
http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/41/notstraind.html
Agatha Christie--Hercule Poirot
Hercule Poirot's Morning Off
What does the little Belgian detective do when he doesn't have a case?
http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/47/herculepoirots.html
Explanations
A case; it really does feel like the explanations at the end of a classic mystery!
http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/37/explanations.html
Bringing Up Baby
Havana Honeymoon
I could *so* see Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn in this scene!
http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/53/havanahoneymoon.html
C.S. Lewis--Chronicles of Narnia
Three True Things About Archenland
Post The Horse and His Boy. I love Cor and Aravis in this!
http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/56/threetrue.html
Sea Legs
And how does Eusatce adjust to his own world after his first time in Narnia?
http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/55/sealegs.html
Diane Duane--Young Wizard series
Miracles
This really feels like a canon gap-filler.
http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/49/miracles.html
Dorothy L. Sayers--Lord Peter Wimsey series
The First Year After
Harriet Vane and Charles Parker come to an accommodation.
http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/43/thefirst.html
L. Frank Baum--The Oz series
The Solitary Sorceress of Oz
This is adorable, just a beautiful bit of warm and fuzzy friendship, that feels very much like the book.
http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/46/thesolitary.html
Mary Poppins--(Movie)
What's To Happen All Happened Before
Bert's thoughts on his relationship with Mary.
http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/46/thesolitary.html
Mister Rogers Neighborhood
Harriet and Owl, and oh, this is so sweet and beautiful! I think Fred Rogers himself would be touched by it.
Natural Theology
http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/56/naturaltheology.html
R.A. MacAvoy--The Book of Kells
I read the book many years ago, but as soon as I started to read this fic, I remembered it all. And this seems just like what would have happened after the book ended.
Bride's Beauty
http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/42/bridesbeauty.html
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
The Merry-Go-Round-Broke Down
OMG! Everyone in the world has recced this, and no wonder! How do you write crack fic about a canon that is crack to begin with? Everyone is right in character--it is utterly hilarious, and if it doesn't make you howl with laughter, nothing will!

Date: 2008-01-09 05:32 am (UTC)Fortunately I didn't hit anything on my way to the floor. ;)
But that is the magic of Yuletide ... even minute fandoms get a taste of fic, and everyone gets a chance to revisit books, shows and movies they hadn't read or watched in ages. I'm glad you enjoyed my contribution!
