I thought today I'd share a favorite link with you.

Some of you may be familiar with fantasy author Ellen Kushner. She hosts a progam on public radio, called Sound and Spirit. A few years ago, she did a program dedicated to LotR, and you can still listen to it. It's where I first heard of The Hobbitons, and of The Tolkien Ensemble.

How wonderful! I'm going to come back to this when I have a little more time...That sounds very intriguing! :-)

The program is fascinating anyway--it explores the connections between the human spirit and creativity and music. She has done programs connected to most of the major religious holidays--of most of the world religions (though she herself is Jewish) and covered themes like friendship, gardens, death, birth, etc. and she picks music from all over the world and throughout history! I think, though, that the LotR one is the only one based on a major work of literature. Some of my other favorites of her shows were the one based on humor, and one she did about Jonah and the whale.

My favorite piece on the LotR program is the marvelous setting of "All That Glitters", near the end of the program.

Did you post a link to this once before? I'm trying to remember where I first heard about this wonderful program, which I've listened to several times with the greatest enjoyment.

I believe I did post it in a comment to someone's question about LotR inspired music--but it's been a very long time ago.

I really do love it, it's a favorite of mine, and I re-listen to it frequently.
