* Grab the nearest book.
* Open the book to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
* Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.
The book on my immediate left is almost always LotR. I keep it there by my computer for easy reference in writing fic, unless I've taken it away with me to read elsewhere. This means that unless the page number changes, almost everytime this meme comes up, my quote is the same But I have an equally nearby book on my right, today.
'In good faith, Sir Gawain,' said the gracious lady,
'the prowess and the excellence that all others approve,
if I scorned or decried them, it were scant courtesy.'"
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl, and Sir Orfeo
JRR Tolkien
(I had it out to quote from yesterday for the poetry meme. However, since all my Tolkien books are kept in the upper part of my desk, that means inevitably any book I quote from is bound to be either by or about him.)
