I did this a few days ago, and then forgot to post it!

These questions are from [livejournal.com profile] sue_denimme

1. If money and time were no object, where would you most like to visit?

I'd go and visit people on my flist! It would be so cool to go on a long road trip and stop for a few days everywhere I have a friend! I've met some, but there are others I would just love to meet in person, and several I'd love to see again.

Or if money were truly no object, I'd set up a moot on a cruise ship or at a nice resort, and pay for everyone to come. (Publisher's Clearing House, come through for me! )

2. What is the story you have written that you are most proud of?

Hmm…I'd have to say I'm pleased with many of them. But I think of my longer stories "A New Reckoning" still makes me feel that I accomplished something-- it kind of set the stage for nearly every fic I wrote afterwards. Of my more recent stories, I'd have to say "Trotter"-- I felt like I was exploring a place in canon that I had never been, and I love that I completed it in such a short time.

Of my short pieces, I think my poem "The Smallest Hands". It said what I needed it to say, and what I feel and believe about LotR, and I was very pleased with how the rhyme and scansion came out.

3. You are reading a fic, and come across something in it that causes you to back out of it so fast you leave skidmarks. What is that something most likely to be?

Pointless and unexpected character death-- especially if it seems like it was included just for shock value. I am still upset with a formerly favorite author for doing that. It spoiled all her other stories for me, and I will never finish the story she did it in.

Too much explicit sex. Now, you know stories come with ratings and warnings, but sometimes I will start a story I know contains NC-17 material if it looks like an otherwise good story, and I think I can get away with skipping the sex scenes. But if it turns into something where I'm *constantly* having to scroll past the naked bodies, I will just give it up as too much effort. I can't think why any story should need more than one sex scene anyhow. (Actually, I don't really see why it would *need* even one, LOL! YMMV! )

4. What about a show/book/movie makes you want to write fanfic for it?

Hobbits? *grin*

I'm pretty much a one-fandom person. However, since I've participated in Yuletide, that's not *strictly* true. And I've been tempted by a few other fandoms-- books, mainly, and it really is for the same reason: not enough canon. I would love to see some fic, for example, set in Randall Garrett's Lord D'arcy universe. He wrote only three books about that world (two short story collections and one novel) and his literary heir wrote only two. I'd love to have more, and someday I might write some, if I can't get anyone to write it for me.

Another thing would be engaging characters. Last year I wrote a Yuletide fic set in Margaret Sidney's Five Little Peppers series. The books are as saccharine as you can imagine for a nineteenth century children's series to be, and the main character, Polly, is a real Mary Sue-- everyone loves Polly! Yet there is something very endearing about Polly and her siblings that made revisiting that world and writing fic in it satisfying.

Gaps. Without gaps there's no place for fic to go.

Though I love reading movie or TV fic for movies/shows I like, I've never really been tempted to write in those fandoms. Crossovers with LOTR though, tempt me. (the Doctor could easily crossover with Middle-earth, and I've read some good ones) I've actually written LotR/Hidalgo and LotR/Lassie! Just fluff, but fun.

5. What is your favorite activity that doesn't involve a computer?

Crafting and cooking. I love calligraphy, sewing, knitting, painting, polymer clay, and various and sundry crafts-- mostly right now I'm on a knitting jag. And I love to cook and to make up new recipes-- and it's even better than writing fic for getting instant feedback!
