The holidays are coming!

Well, I am signed up now for three story exchanges!

First of all, the LOTR GenFic Community's annual Yule Fic Exchange. Can't say too much more about that, since I'm a mod, but the story will be fun to write.

Second, is lotr_sesa, which is the first time I've signed up for that one! I really like the request I got for that one!

And third is yuletide! This is my third Yuletide, and I just got my assignment. The good thing is that I am a match on two fandoms, either one of which will be fun to write. The bad thing is that my recipient did not put in any details in the request, and I can't find a Yuletide Santa letter from the person, either. So I guess I'm completely on my own with the story. I hope they like it.

Thank goodness my story for the November lotr_community "Dialogue" challenge is nearly finished!

Christmas is coooming, the goose is getting fat...

You are far braver than I, LOL. I love reading the exchanges but I never do them. I am always worried that whatever I write won't be what the requester wanted.
I do look forward to seeing all of the Yule stories this year as they start to appear. That's always fun.

Well, I'm always nervous about exchanges! But they are fun to do.

You'd be surprised! I've never really been disappointed in one-- and though I have *almost* been stumped a couple of times, it worked out in the end. I just have to do my best, and keep my fingers crossed.

yuletide is the only one that worries me a lot. It's the only time I write non-LotR fic, and so it is quite a bit more work.

I doubt I'd ever try one for a non-LOTRs group. And with LOTR, I just know I'd wind up giving someone looking for a canon fic fits! LOL

Of course, I imagine that with hobbit families looking out for one another, there wouldn't have been too many elderly fellows asking for handouts. Although the sentiment "If you haven't got a halfpenny, then God bless you!" is very hobbity... sans the religion...

yuletide is amazing. It is only for "obscure and unpopular fandoms" so LOTR, being famous and popular, is not eligible. But they have requests for hundreds of fandoms! They manage to match everyone up, too!

The first year, I wrote a Narnia fic, and the person really liked it. And last year I had a blast writing Five Little Peppers (a 19th century kids' book series) which I've never seen fic for before. (I've posted both of those at TLS.) I can't say what fandom I'm matched up for this year though, as it has to be anonymous until after the reveal.

Right now the Yuletide archive is locked until the new exchange is over with, but you might want to check it out sometime later just to read the amazing stories. A couple of years ago, there was an utterly amazing "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" fic that made me laugh so hard it hurt. And fic for TV shows that have been canceled for years, movies hardly anyone ever heard of and books-- lots of book fandoms! Even fics for commercials or songs. (I saw lots of requests this year for fic about the FreeCreditReport dot com Guy!)

Because its Author most certainly associated the Shire with the England of his childhood-- which given his upbringing, was more Victorian than Edwardian in its essence.

(I think you most certainly should adapt it. And of course, it is also stuck in MY head...)

Oooh. Now that I'm on a writing spree the Yuletide sounds interesting. But I can't make any promises so I won't sign up. I need to finish the story I'm working on and I'm really not into three fandoms (I probably can still do LOTR but I wouldn't be able to make much out of say SGA or anything else but SG-1 and LOTR.) And I definitely wouldn't let anyone read anything i did in any other fandom, lol. I wouldn't be able to do the characters justice. :)

Well, LotR and Stargate are not eligible fandoms for Yuletide, as they are too well-known and popular. It's only for fandoms that hardly anyone pays attention to anymore. I *think* though I'm not sure, that MacGyver has had fics in Yuletide...*grin*

It's my one time a year to write in another fandom besides LotR! (I can't say which one this year, since it's anonymous to begin with, but last year I wrote "Five Little Peppers"--an old kid's book series-- and the year before I wrote Narnia. Unfortunately, since the movies, Narnia is not eligible anymore.) Other books by Tolkien and Lewis are still eligible, but I'm betting that once the new movies come out, The Hobbit will lose its eligibility.

There are thousands of stories about almost anything! I've read stories based on the Dixie Chicks song "Earl", Care Bears, Disney Princesses, the girl on the e-insurance commercial, Calvin and Hobbes, Galaxy Quest, Winnie-the-Pooh, Boston Legal, Discworld, Peanuts, Nancy Drew, LOLcats, The Princess Bride, Sesame Street...

Last year, there was an amazing vid, One Night Fandom FanVid, dedicated to Yuletide, that showed clips from about 230 of the different fandoms, set to "Angel of the Morning". (But there are lots of gen Yuletide stories, too! LOL!)

hee! I am not doing yuletide this year. I've decided that this year I prefer to read the stories without the pressure and stress! :D SOooo...no challenges for me for awhile while I kick my muse back into commission...:)

OK, that video is brilliant! I have just played it about three or four times and I could watch it again and again. If they do a video again this year, please let me know. That was a wonderful group of clips. It was such an interesting mix.
