Really good point about the going through difficult times verses doing something difficult. I think that's why I was a little stumped at that question myself...The first time I traveled internationally by myself it was not by choice and I was terrified. I had been traveling with an acquaintance (a tough Canadian girl who was used to travel by herself) and she suddenly decided she didn't want to be in Greece (that's where we were) and she was leaving. She had a Eurorail pass. I did not. She hopped on a train and abandoned me in Greece. I was terrified out of my skull, but I pulled myself together and started my own travels in Greece. I definitely ran into some bumps in the road, but I'm so glad I did that instead of curling up and cowarding in Athens and not deciding to explore other places (which I loved FAR more than Athens)
