Passed on from [livejournal.com profile] otw_news:

Lev Grossman of Time Magazine (himself a novelist whose most recent novel has been compared both to Harry Potter and the Chronicles of Narnia) has been working on a feature story for Time about the cultural and legal issues surrounding fanfiction. Members of the OTW's Communications and Legal staff have already talked with him, but now he'd like to talk to some fanfiction writers directly. So we've set up a LiveJournal community for the purpose: [livejournal.com profile] lg_interview.

If you write fanfiction and would be interested in talking about it (using either your pseud or your legal name; we've explained that fan pseudonyms aren't "sockpuppets," but have a history and accountability within fandom), please join [livejournal.com profile] lg_interview. (Basic LiveJournal accounts are still free if you haven't got one, or if you'd be willing to talk but don't want to join the community, you can leave a signed or unsigned comment on Lev Grossman's LiveJournal or blog.)

I've joined and added my answers! Even if you don't want to be interviewed yourself, you might want to peruse the many answers already posted! Lots of fun-- would anyone ever suspect that fanfic writers might be just a tad opinionated about their hobby? LOL!

Sounds fun, I've just joined.I do hope OTW help us to be taken more seriously as there are some super stories out there as good or better than anything you would buy in a shop.

I joined and added my answers! It's interesting, and it would be cool to say I contributed to an interview for Time.

It looks cool, but I feel sorry for the poor interns who are going to have to weed through the answers, if fandom responds as vociferously as I think it will. (And if Mr. Grossman signed up for this without having someone else help at all, well, I guess that's entirely in character with anyone who decides to write fantasy novels.)

I am most disappointed, though, that there is no means for me to engage in my favorite activity: anonymous lurking! I'd love to see the final product, though.

I've also joined and am going to have fun expressing my opinion. I'm really looking forward to the article and I hope a lot of LOTR writers get involved!

Thanks for sharing the link, DF! Mr. Grossman's questions and tone are so sincere and genuinely curious that it was impossible to refrain from opining. In my case, I responded to the "authors who spurn fan fiction" question by posting a revision of a friends-locked screed I wrote about George R. R. Martin last January; I edited out a bit of the snark from the original, but only a little. ;^)

Mr. Grossman's respectfulness has won him a book sale: The Magicians. I had read the NYT review a while back, and it piqued my interest.

Hey, this was fun--thanks so much for telling us about it. It's interesting reading all the comments, too. Many different reasons for being here! I found it kind of difficult once I got going, to say what I thought (in at least one case--generations-- I didn't) and to say it eloquently enough to actually be the writer I claim to be! :)
