That fannish meme that everyone is doing...

Here's that meme that practically everyone on my flist has done:

First TV show I had self-insertion fantasies about:
They were on around the same time, so I don't recall which was first, but I can remember making up shows about a "little sister" character for both "Bonanza" and "Hogan's Heroes". I suppose I was about ten at the time, and making those scenarios up was how I put myself to sleep at night.

First fandom in which I interacted (online and in person) with other fans:
My first and only online: LotR, and I guess, Tolkien in general. I started out at r.a.b.t./a.f.t. on usenet, and then discovered fanfic archives and LiveJournal.

However in my teens (back before the internet when the dinosaurs roamed), I was into The Monkees, and my small group of friends and I started our own chapter of their fan club. There were four of us and we were the only ones in it. I was president.

Pairing in the first slash fanfiction I read:
Merry/Pippin; very gennish-type mild slash, but written by my friend danae_b. I still don't read much slash, but I did enjoy her version of Merry/Pippin.

Pairing in the first fanfiction I wrote:
None. It was a story about Pippin's first few weeks at home after the Quest, and there weren't any real pairings in it, unless you count his parents. My second one did have just a tiny hint of Merry/Estella though.

First RPS/RPF I read:
I don't actually recall. I'm sure it was probably LotR-related, but I don't remember anything about it. I rarely read RPF unless it's something very short, like a drabble or vignette or a short humorous ficlet. The only RPF I've written myself was a little vignette about Dom appearing on the Ellen show.

There is one exception: I do like stories that feature J.R.R. Tolkien himself as a character, and as long as he is depicted fairly closely to being in-character (to what we know of him) it can be as long as it wants to.

First fanfiction I read that made me think, YES, this is exactly the kind of fanfiction I'd like to write.
The fanfiction that actually started me writing fanfic was by Lulleny: "The Prodigal Took". My first fanfic was actually a follow-up to her story, and when I emailed her to ask what I should do with it (because I didn't have a clue how one went about posting fanfic) she was kind enough to beta it for me and encourage me to archive it. I've also been greatly influenced by Baylor's "The Care and Feeding of Hobbits", and by stories by any number of my friends, including but not limited to, Shirebound, Budgielover, Lindelea, Larner, Grey Wonderer and a number of others.

First OTP:
Umm…I've never had OTPs. I'm not a 'shipper at heart, although there are a number of canon pairings I am quite fond of, and some fanon pairings I enjoy just as much (such as Dana's Moro Burrows/Celandine Brandybuck or SurgicalSteel's Halbarad/Serindë)there's no one particular one that I like to the exclusion of all else.

First RPS/RPF OTP: None. (see above)

First fannish friend I met in person:
The first one I met was marigoldg. I met her when she brought her mother to live in Mississippi. Shortly after that, I met coneygoil who lived in a nearby town. After we moved to Oklahoma, I traveled to Scotland for ScotMoot in 2007 and met a great many more people on my flist: ceshaughnessy, llinos, grey_wonderer, maniac1, pippinfan1, grav_ity, thebeecharmer, magicalrachel, angiet, Knitted Merry, Knitted Pippin and several other people who were not on LJ.

I got to meet danae_b when she flew up here and spent a week with me, and I have met the_arc5 several times when we have either met for lunch at Pop's on Highway 66 or she has come to visit me at the house.

But I really want to meet a lot more of my friends in person one day!

First character I formally roleplayed:
None.

I don't think you and I knew each other or our fics at all back in those early days! :) It's so awesome that so many people were out there in fan fic land and were able to come together via LJ to talk fandom, etc.!

No, I don't think we "met" until after Hurricane Katrina. But that's been almost 7 years now!

It is fun to read and think about this stuff. I remembered last night after posting this, when thinking of those little mental fanfics I made up as a child (and I am not sure if fanfic even existed then, since it was pre-ST:TOS) but I did actually 'ship Gilligan/Mary Ann from "Gilligan's Island", LOL!

Definitely! I mean look how many fanons are based on that story! And yes, I re-read it too, from time to time-- sometimes the whole thing, and sometimes just a chapter or two. I absolutely adore the one on genealogy (possibly the first of many fics dealing with hobbits trying to teach Big Folk about that) and the one about the haircuts makes me smile SO much!
