It's a non-profit group that promotes fannish activities, like fanfiction, vids, fan art, etc. It has several activities, like the Fanlore Wiki, and it also has a legal dept. set up to help fans who get targeted or get accused of copyright infringement.
They are trying to find out whether people know about them, and how much they know, and also trying to get an idea of what is most useful to fans.
