dreamflower: gandalf at bag end (Default)

One silver lining from our current situation is that the DH has been available to come to church with me for a few weekends. Today we decided to go out to lunch after the service, and ended up at the local steakhouse.

As I was getting out of the car I heard a voice say: "Dreamflower?"

I immediately turned and responded (I always suspected I would answer to that name if anyone ever called me by it in person, and I was right, even though this was the first time it came up in RL, LOL!)

She recognized me by the decal on the back of my car ("The Road goes ever on and on..."). It was a lady I had met about three or four years back, at a social gathering put on by our (at the time) pastor's wife. We had clicked--she was a huge LotR fan--and I kind of turned her on to fanfic. She has actually left me a few reviews at SoA, but I've never seen her in person since then. We chatted for a few minutes in the parking lot, and she revealed that she is still following several of my stories (I did have another review from her about two months ago or so) as well as those of a couple of other SoA authors she mentioned. We spoke again as we were leaving the restaurant, and it made me grin so hard!

The service this morning was very nice...

The choir is back in full force (they are "off" during the summer) and the music was lovely. The sermon was about service, and was very thought-provoking. Our new pastor is very low key and quiet compared to the previous one, but she also has a very wonderful way of looking at things. The closing hymn was to a very familiar tune, but the words were some I had never sung before, and I thought they were really appropriate.

Lord, whose love through humble service
Bore the weight of human need,
Who upon the cross, forsaken,
Offered mercy's perfect deed,
We, Your servants, bring the worship
Not of voice alone, but heart,
Consecrating to Your purpose
Every gift that You impart.

Still Your children wander homeless;
Still the hungry cry for bread;
Still the captives long for freedom;
Still in grief we mourn our dead.
As, O Lord, Your deep compassion
Healed the sick and freed the soul,
Use the love Your Spirit kindles
Still to save and make us whole.

As we worship, grant us vision,
Till Your love's revealing light,
In its height and depth and greatness,
Dawns upon our quickened sight,
Making known the needs and burdens
Your compassion bids us bear,
Stirring us to tireless striving,
Your abundant life to share.

Called from worship to Your service,
Forth in Your dear name we go,
To the child, the youth, the aged,
Love in living deeds to show;
Hope and health, goodwill and comfort,
Counsel, aid, and peace we give,
That Your servants, Lord, in freedom
May Your mercy know and live.

Anyway, I hope to get a bit of writing in this afternoon, and maybe we will start putting up our Hallowe'en decorations!

If we ever meet, I'm sure that Dreamflower is the only name I'll ever use to address you! :)

That is so cool! The internet makes such unique relationships but it's really nice to turn one into an honest to goodness face to face one. I'm happy for you!

Oh gosh, if I ever heard someone call out "Shirebound" in real life, I might faint! What a cool experience.

I have no idea what I'd do if someone in real life suddenly showed up and called me "Cairistiona"! I guess I'd be impressed that they knew how to pronounce it, but then, like Shirebound, I'd probably faint. LOL

What a beautiful hymn.

That's awesome! It's always nice when our fannish worlds and the "real" world collide.
