monthlydiaryday:
Except for the having of company, it was a rather ordinary day. Glad my 'net is working this AM.
6AM: Got up, fixed breakfast (grits for the DH and oatmeal for myself). Watched "Good Morning America" and got dressed for the day. I had company coming for lunch (My co-worker, A. wanted to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey before she sees the new movie this weekend. We also had the cable guy coming; our phone's out, the internet is going out intermittently, and the TV is working, but has a lot of tiling going on on the upper channels. No internet first thing, but it came back on its own about an hour-and-a-half later.
9AM: So, I got the bathroom cleaned, the kitchen cleaned up from breakfast, and ran the sweeper. I had dusted and tidied everything yesterday. Then I did some prep for lunch: homemade mushroom pizza, salad and cherry cheesecake for dessert (the latter a boxed mix, though I added some lemon zest and a bit of lemon juice to the filling). But I sliced the mushrooms and chopped some tomatoes for the pizza, and got the crust ready. (I use my bread machine to make pizza dough). Made some iced tea and the salad, and so on.
10:15: Cable guy shows up. He checks it all out, and says that there are in fact, errors in our signal, but they are originating elsewhere, and that our neighbors probably have some of the same problems. He puts in a work order for that to be taken care of. I know it will be, too. Suddenlink's always very prompt, courteous and efficient, one reason we stick with cable, even though there are some cheaper options.
11:30: A. shows up, and I put the pizza in the oven, and we start the movie. I have to shut Sophie up in our bedroom, as she shows signs of being aggressive. Miss Bella is interested in my guest--but A.'s allergic, so I try to keep her off of A by occasionally squirting her with water (The cat, not A! LOL!). We watch part of the movie until the pizza's done, and then watch while we eat. It's fun to see my favorite parts--almost all my favorite bits are right at the beginning of the movie while they are still at Bag End, and then "Riddles in the Dark" as well. I forgot how noisy the music can be! I love Howard Shore's music, but sometimes it gets loud right over the dialogue.
Unfortunately, A. has to leave before it's over--her allergies are bothering her. I had no idea that she was allergic to cats and dogs before she came, so I feel kind of bad. She's rather cheerful about it, though, and thanked me for the lunch. The internet was out again, but by the time I washed the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen from lunch, it came back on. I spent a couple of hours uploading some fic to AO3, and checking out some things on YouTube.
5:20PM: The DH gets home and I make another mushroom pizza for supper, only I add some ham to it (because he has to have some meat). We watch the news. I do a little more 'net surfing while he channel surfs the TV. Then we watch the first Thor movie--neither of us had seen it before. Not bad for a comic book movie, not as bad as some, not as good as others.

Date: 2013-12-13 01:59 pm (UTC)I put just about a third of a jar of pizza sauce on, and then sprinkled it with a couple of fresh diced tomatoes that I'd mixed with minced garlic and snipped fresh basil. Then I just PILED the mushrooms on top and covered them with mozarella!
It was yummy!

Date: 2013-12-13 06:57 pm (UTC)I am with you about Bag End and Gollum. But I also quite like the trolls! Just the right tone there. And s much as I hate it from a canon POV, I was moved to tears by that final showdown between Azog and Thorin and Bilbo and all of that. It affected me more profoundly than Boromir's death, even, because the whole ensemble was involved.

Date: 2013-12-13 07:42 pm (UTC)I think my favorite parts in the troll sequence are where Bilbo is trying so hard to free the ponies! They have his Myrtle!
I quite enjoy having company once in a while. The DH is pretty much a hermit, though, so company is a rarity! I just wish A. and I had had more time to talk; there's not much time for fannish conversation at work. I'm in the market, and she's back on the drive-through!
