So, here are my notes from yesterday:

7AM: The DH is sick. He was hacking and coughing most of the night, poor baby. We ended up sleeping a little later because of that. But with a cat and a dog in the house, we can't sleep too late; animals have to be fed, and the dog has to go out. So we get up. I make him sit back in his recliner, and he decides he'd better go ahead and call in to work for tomorrow. I bugged him all last week to call in and go see the doctor, but he wouldn't do it--now that it's gotten worse, he finally listens!

I make some breakfast. Last night we had some bison burgers, and I made a mushroom and bacon topping for them. There was about a third of a cup leftover, so this morning I we had scrambled eggs and I threw it into the eggs. Very yummy!

(Mushroom and bacon topping:

1 carton of button mushrooms
4 slices of bacon
Olive oil
Salt and/or pepper to taste
Balsalmic vinegar
Beef or vegetable broth

Crisp the bacon in a skillet while you dice up the mushrooms. Put the bacon slices on a paper towel, and drain off the bacon fat. Put the skillet back on the stove, add a splash of olive oil and throw in the mushrooms, season to taste; cook on medium heat until soft and brown. Just before they are done splash about a tablespoon each of the vinegar and broth, and keep cooking until the liquid evaporates. Keep warm until ready to serve. Serve as a topping for burgers or steaks, or add to other dishes.)

We watched what was left of Good Morning America, and then we watched This Week with George Stephanopoulis (except it wasn't George, it was Martha Radditz--I like her, she made a good sub for George). Mostly they talked about the bridge thing in New Jersey.

My sister-in-law called and talked to the DH for a while, and I checked my email, answered a few reviews from ff.net, and then went to get ready for church. It's so rare for me to get a Sunday off from work, I really don't want to miss it when I DO get one.

11:45AM: I left for church. I promised the DH I would pick him up some cough medicine when I come home. The weather is pretty temperate--no rain, nice and sunny; I don't need a coat. But the WIND is really blowing hard. When I get to church I almost can't get out of the car--the door is trying to blow shut before I can get out!

I speak to a few friends in the narthex before I go into the sanctuary to sit down. I take a look at the bulletin; I like to look up and bookmark the hymns before the service. They are singing some of my hymns; the opening one is "Oh for a Thousand Tongues to Sing". Today also just happens to be the date most Methodist churches have a service for rededicating one's baptism, which we are having. After a nice sermon, we have the service of rededication: we go up and take a small shell from a basin of water as a reminder.

12:15PM: After church I go by Dollar General, and pick up cough medicine, cat food and a can of chicken noodle soup for the DH's lunch. I warm up a couple of pieces of leftover pizza for myself. He's been watching bowling on one of the sports channels, and since that's one of the few sports I actually know much about, I watch too, while we eat.

1:30PM: We turn off the TV, and I get out my copy of The Silmarillion so I can finish the first couple of chapters, since the [livejournal.com profile] silwritersguild is having an online re-read that begins today. It's been a while since I have actually read it, rather than just picking through it to find something specific.

3PM: On the computer again, making and answering comments. My computer is doing something weird where it will suddenly and randomly type a whole row of the same letter. Very frustrating.

5PM: Watch the news, and then have leftovers for supper. Then we watch the second disk of The Two Towers, followed by watching the Golden Globes--never watched those before, but I like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Even though they were still on we were taping them, so we could pause for however long we want.

11PM: The DH gave up and went to bed. I'm starting to feel bad myself, and hope I'm not coming down with what he has. Taking some Tylenol, and hoping to feel better in the morning.

UPDATE: Jan. 13. I felt worse, not better, this morning. The DH made appts. for both of us with our primary caregiver this afternoon, which we just got home from. They swabbed our noses, and we weren't flu-ish, but he has borderline bronchitis, and I was sounding kind of rough, so she sent off prescriptions for antibiotics and cough medicine. I'm feeling a little better now though.

I'm sorry you and DH were sick. My daughter and her husband both got sick after Christmas, and they're just starting to get better. Take care of yourself. Your topping sounds delicious.

I'm sorry you're both not your best... may the meds help!

It was so windy Sunday here as well. Our church is on a big hill and I had the opposite problem--the wind tried to yank the door out of my hand and into the car beside me! Fortunately I caught it before I gave someone a door ding.

Mushrooms, bacon and eggs sounds delicious!

Ah, yours too? Mine says he is feeling somewhat better but rather as though someone ran him over with a truck. Ditto for my daughter. Sigh... Hope you guys are well soon!

I hope you both recover very soon! That mushroom thingie sounds yummy, although I'd probably just saute the mushrooms in the bacon drippings! (man, how far I have fallen from being pure vegetarian a few years ago, LOL!)
