A fic recommendation

I have read the most marvelous WIP today--it's by the same author who wrote "Left Behind" which Anso recced last week, Elanor. It's called "A Secret Gate", and deals with the decision made by Merry and Pippin at the end of their lives to go South. The prologue is all about Pippin, but the chapters so far (1-10) are all set in Buckland, and feature an amazing Meriadoc the Magnificent, Master of Buckland.

Oh my! What have you done to me now? I went to the site and I read every word of it, all ten chapters in one setting and my only regret is that there aren't more chapters yet! This is an amazing story! I have bookmarked it and will probably go nuts waiting for updates. I haven't read anything that discriptive and that beautifully written in a very long time. It reminds me of the story over on ff.net that just stopped after 12 chapters, "The Green Book". I do hope this one doesn't stop suddenly. Thank you for posting the link to it. Maybe if the writer hears from lots of readers she will update quickly. I emailed her and gushed over it all. Does Marigold know about this one? Talk about a Best Bet! This is one if ever I've read one.

I emailed her as well, and she answered me back. I don't think she has intentions of abandoning this, but she said it may be a couple of weeks to an update, as her beta has been ill.

It is brilliant, isn't it? I don't think I've ever seen a better Merry at this stage of his life.

I remember "The Green Book". I wonder why it was abandoned. I hope nothing dire happened to the author.

I am glad to hear that she plans to update. Her Merry is wonderful and I liked Pippin in the prologue and Merry's memories of him as well. Merry's family is delightful too. I liked Tom, Sam's son who is interested in Berry. Well, let's face it, I loved it all. I wrote her and told her so.
As to the author of "The Green Book", I have no idea. I have not seen any other stories by her at all either before that one or after. I suppose maybe she lost interest before finishing it and I hope that is all there is to it. I would hate to think up anything worse. I don't know anyone that we could ask either.

I was going over some past Marigold's Challenge stories, and I noticed one by her among the earlier challenges, I don't remember which one, now. But you're right, I've never seen anything else besides that...

I'd love to see it updated as well, but I suppose that's a vain hope after this much passage of time.
