And here's a little something I wrote. Not LotR, no hobbits:
RENEWAL (SPRING ON OLD HIGHWAY 49)
Everywhere I saw it: nature’s fury on nature was unleashed,
leaving behind it that which should not be seen—
the roots of trees exposed to day, dead
and broken, limbs twisted, branches snapped:
a roadside ditch, a tangle
of limbs, crowned with
a vine of
Cherokee roses
blooming.
