Well, people are posting their first posts, so here I am, doing the same thing! I had forgotten just how eventful my first week on LJ was! For some reason, I was thinking I'd started in August, but apparently not!

Here is the first of my posts. Pretty lame, actually:

Sept 10, 2004

Hello everyone, this is Dreamflower. [livejournal.com profile] marigoldg set this LJ up for me today. I'm not too sure what I'm going to do with it, but Hi! She put a few names on for friends, and I hope you and anyone else who likes will friend me back.

I love hobbit fics, so anyone with good recommendations please let me know. I'm really new to this, and I don't have any icons yet or a name for my page, so any suggestions would be more than welcome!

Sept 12, 2004

I've been enjoying trying to get the hang of this LJ thing, and now I'm up in the wee hours, sleepless again, so I'm playing around with it some more.

My DH and I had a lovely evening clelbrating our anniversary--went out to eat at a very nice restaurant that specializes in Creole food. I'm not that into spicy, but they have a salad dressing there that is out of this world, and I always get one to go with my hot roast beef po boy. Then we went to a bookstore. Unfortunately I couldn't find much in the way of a book, but did manage to get a LoTR calendar for next year.
We're keeping an eye on Ivan--looks like he might head in this direction. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Hurricanes=NO FUN!!! 8-<

I am having a blast reading everyone's comments--this is so cool!! Thanks, Marigold! ( I can't find my piece of paper with the directions for making your name thingy. It's around here somewhere...)

Well, that lovely little restaurant, called The Gumbo Shop had no problems with Hurricane Ivan, but it did not survive Katrina. A year later it was completely gone.

Sept 13, 2004

I just got off the phone with [Unknown LJ tag] (Yay! I found my instructions!) and if Ivan does in fact come this way, she and her Mom are coming over here. If it stays Cat. 4 or 5,then we will head out from here ahead of landfall.

We are about as ready as we can be. I will have to go the vet and get some tranquilizers for the dogs. They are terrified of storms, and not good travellers.

Well, have to go get something out for supper.

The "Unknown Tag" of course was Marigold; apparently I did not follow those directions properly.

Sept 14, 2004

[Subject line: Marigold, her mom and I]

...are here at my house right now. We still have a few things to prep, and will spend the night here before heading north in the morning. We are not certain where we will end up, but will try to keep in touch. Right now the game plan is to go north until we find someplace. LOL! An Adventure! We must make sure to take some pocket-handkerchiefs!

I'll check in from time to time today, and make sure to let y'all know when we actually hit the road.

Sept 15, 2004

As soon as we finish packing the trucks,[livejournal.com profile] marigoldg her mom, the dogs and I will be heading out. We've got a long drive ahead of us. When we get to the destination, we will try to check in with everyone.
Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Bye-bye!

It was a lot longer drive than we expected. The roads were bumper-to-bumper and there were detours which made the drive even longer. We had to go nearly the entire length of the state to find a place to stay.

Sept 18, 2004

Hello all!

[livejournal.com profile] marigoldg and I are home from Holly Springs. We had to drive almost to Tennessee to get to our room, which, though I dare say it was *not* in the best part of town was clean, safe, and run by a very sweet family.

I got lost a couple of times, but we finally were able to navigate our way around.

The drive up was about eleven hours, but it didn't take nearly so long to come home thank goodness.

The only casualty of the storm at our house was our fish, Bait, who is with us no more, since a power failure took out his filter. Alas, poor Bait, we knew him well.

Marigold and I have thought up *dozens* of plot bunnies, and are co-authoring a story on one of them.

Thanks to everyone for their good wishes and prayers.

Funny, I remember that drive as being a lot longer than eleven hours. It seemed more like 13 or 14!

I had no idea, of course, that a year later we would not be so lucky with another Hurricane!

You know, looking at those comments, most of you are still with me and still comment on many of my posts!

((((hugs flist))))
