Fic recommendation--new hobbit author!!

I would just like to let everyone know of a first-time hobbitfic that has just been posted by gryffinjack. She has written an adorable story featuring wee!Pippin, visiting at Bag End for one of Bilbo's and Frodo's birthdays. I hope you all will check it out and let her know what you think!

A warm--and thoughtful--little story! May I ask the meaning and origin of the word "fauntling"? That's a new one for me.

It was a sweet little story, and I'm quite proud of the author!

"Fauntling" comes from "faunt", a word JRRT made up to describe hobbits at what *we* would call children at the "toddler" stage of life. He says hobbit babies become "faunts" when they are three-year-olds (This is one figure used to determine the age ratio of hobbits to humans, along with the coming of age at thirty-three to a human age of twenty-one. It works out to just under two-thirds of human age. Topaz Took figured it at .64.) He only uses "faunt", but it's fanon to occasionally add the "ling" on the end, as a diminuitive. The information is found in his Letter #214, which is chock full of information about hobbit society, inheritance practices, gift-giving customs and other plot bunnies.
