Dear Yuletide Santa
Nov. 13th, 2009 09:45 amDear Yuletide Writer:
First of all, something that applies to *all* my requests: I really do *not* want slash or smut. I very much prefer gen. Even in canon romantic pairings, I would rather see "fade to black" or innuendo than any actual details, though I don't mind a few hints or euphemisms the next day, to make the couple blush.
Now, for fandom specifics:
RequestFandom1: Randall Garrett - Lord Darcy stories
I confess, I hope this is the one picked. I really would love to see fic in this fandom.
RequestFandomChar1: Lord Darcy-Sean O' Lochlainn
Information here
RequestDetail1: Also requested: Lord John Quetzal I'd love a nice cozy mystery, with perhaps a new spell to help solve it. It doesn't have to be a murder. If the story could also have a mention of the Marquis de London and Lord Bontriomphe that would be awesome.
Actually, I have several scenarios that I would love to see. Between Randall Garrett's short story collections and one novel, and Michael Kurland's two authorized novels, we have been given a wonderfully conceived world to play in-- but there are many things not touched upon, or only briefly mentioned. I'd love to know more about the development of communications in that world, for example, or how education is handled. I don't especially care where in the chronology the story takes place, though as I said, Lord John Quetzal would be a nice addition, and I'd also like a mention of Marquis de London and Lord Bontriomphe, so anything with them would need to be post Too Many Magicians. I consider Kurland's books canon as well, so if you'd like to put a story between Ten Little Wizards and A Study in Sorcery, or after the latter, that would be fine as well.
I also like to see Master Sean at work--the logic behind the magic, as he explains his spells is always fun.
If Master Sean could be hurt or endangered, it would be good to see a bit of h/c, showing Lord Darcy's loyalty and his friendship for the wizard. H/c the other way 'round would be okay, but that's been done in canon, so it's not as intriguing to me.
RequestFandom2: J R R Tolkien - Leaf By Niggle
RequestFandomChar2: Niggle-Parish
RequestDetail2: Details: I'd like to see some of Parish's POV before Niggle went on his journey.
Honestly, that's it. The story, which is the only allegory Tolkien ever wrote, is completely in Niggle's POV, but I have often wondered how Parish felt about his obliging neighbor. Did he consider him a friend? Did he have any idea that he was inconveniencing Niggle with all of his requests for help? Did he realize that Niggle resented the calls upon his time? Did he ever feel guilty? Or was he completely oblivious to Niggle's feelings until after Niggle had gone on his Journey?
RequestFandom3: Christopher Stasheff - The Warlock series
RequestFandomChar3: Fess, Gwendolyn/Rod Gallowglass
RequestDetail3: Details: I'd like a gapfiller, maybe from the time right after the first book "The Warlock In Spite of Himself", before any of the kids came along. A honeymoon story for Rod and Gwen would be nice, but anything to do with Rod adjusting to life on Gramarye is cool.
I love the Gramarye series, but there are a lot of gaps in that universe. We go from Rod and Gwen getting together in The Warlock in Spite of Himself to them already being parents in King Kobold, so I'm curious about the intervening time. How did Rod adjust to living on Gramarye as Gwen's husband? He'd never expected to "go native" when he arrived there as an agent. And Gwen went from being persecuted to being "Lady Gallowglass" wife of the High Lord Warlock, so it had to be some adjustment for her as well. And of course, Fess is just cool. A sentient robotic horse is always a good thing.
RequestFandom4: C S Lewis - Out of the Silent Planet series
RequestFandomChar4: Any/Elwin Ransom
RequestDetail4: Details: A gapfiller, set before "That Hideous Strength" would be good, but really any part of the books.
I've *never* seen any fanfic for these books, so *anything* would be delightful. But I've always been more than a little intrigued by how Ransom came to gather his household about him as Pendragon, before the opening of That Hideous Strength.
