I remember Maverick when it was a first run program, along with shows like Sugarfoot, Cheyenne and other great Western TV shows. I often see it in re-runs, as the DH is a big fan of The Western Channel. And then there was The Rockford Files, one of the best detective shows of the 70s.
He always played the funny one, the wise guy who was more likely to bring the bad guy down in some sort of sting than he was with a fast draw or a right hook. He'll be missed.

Date: 2014-07-21 07:51 am (UTC)I remember him best from a film called "The Thrill of it All" with Doris Day. I own a copy of it. I also liked him in "Support Your Local Sheriff" and "Support Your Local Gunfighter". Those were both funny westerns. I think one of the last films I saw him in at the theater was "The YaYa Sisterhood". I remember Maverick but not well. I remember him much better from "The Rockford Files". He was one of a kind, no question.
