And another one whose presence has been around all my life is gone:

I remember Maverick when it was a first run program, along with shows like Sugarfoot, Cheyenne and other great Western TV shows. I often see it in re-runs, as the DH is a big fan of The Western Channel. And then there was The Rockford Files, one of the best detective shows of the 70s.

He always played the funny one, the wise guy who was more likely to bring the bad guy down in some sort of sting than he was with a fast draw or a right hook. He'll be missed.

Well said. I remember him fondly more for his movies, especially How To Support Your Local Sheriff and Victor/Victoria. He showed such easygoing charm in his performances.

I remember him most fondly for Grand Prix (well, I suppose I would) which is still one of the few good films about motorsport out there, and which oddly enough was scheduled to be shown on BBC2 this afternoon. Did they know? Doesn't matter - it's an excellent film, if melodramatic in places, and he's very good in it.

He was one of those who was just always there, and always would be. *sigh*

Sugarfoot! I remember having such a crush on that actor, even though I was only about five years old.

I was really startled when I read he was gone. I was on FB at the time and someone had posted. He is one of those people I just expected to live forever.
I remember him best from a film called "The Thrill of it All" with Doris Day. I own a copy of it. I also liked him in "Support Your Local Sheriff" and "Support Your Local Gunfighter". Those were both funny westerns. I think one of the last films I saw him in at the theater was "The YaYa Sisterhood". I remember Maverick but not well. I remember him much better from "The Rockford Files". He was one of a kind, no question.
