4:45 AM--Woke up with a cramp in my left foot. OWW! Couldn't really get back to sleep, so plotted some fic in my head.
6AM--Got up, fed cat, packed the DH's lunch and made breakfast (leftover pork chops, eggs and cranberry bread). Saw the DH off to work, got dressed and watched "Good Morning, America", and read the latest chapter of a friend's WIP fanfic.
10AM--Clocked in at work. I was with two co-workers. Since their initials are the same, I will call them Lilac and Daisy. I was scheduled for four hours, until two. But the first thing was that Daisy asked me if I would trade with her (she was scheduled until three) as she wanted to go to her little girl's school program. I agreed, since that meant I'd get a break at 1:30 (you only get a break if you work five hours or more).
Today was a truck day, and also a day for a bit of drama. Lilac and Daisy are fairly new--they were hired at about the same time about two and a half months ago, and they do not get along well at all. When our immediate boss is there it doesn't surface, because S. doesn't allow it to. But she was off today. They try to put me in the middle. I tell each of them they should be talking to each other, but that advice goes over like a lead balloon. I'm just a co-worker, and I have no authority over them. I don't want to tell them what to do.
Lilac is always complaining that Daisy doesn't help with the truck as she's supposed to, but she never speaks directly to Daisy--instead she complains to other people. Daisy's well aware of this talking behind her back, and her complaint is that Lilac won't let her help. I've seen and experienced this for myself. When I work with Lilac, I simply have to latch on and start in, because if you ask if you can help, she'll say she can do it herself, but if you don't hang around she'll gripe about that. Daisy won't just find something to help with the truck--she'll just come back out on the floor so she won't have to deal with Lilac snapping at her. They are both good hard workers and nice enough on their own but when they are scheduled together the feud gets in the way of the work. It's very annoying.
I mainly waited on customers today--we were extremely busy what with the holidays coming up. I sold several gift cards. I also checked in the meat and put it away and worked on the bread and cookies. At 1:30, I had my break. I didn't think I'd have a break so I didn't bring anything to read, so after I ate, I jotted down a few more fic snippets for my Yule fic exchange story. I clocked back in at 2, and was immediately swarmed with customers, pretty much straight through until it was time to leave.
3:15PM--The DH and I had a date night planned for tonight, so I was pleased to see he'd gotten off early and was already home when I got home. I had time to rest up and change, and then about 5, we went to Stillwater (about 23 miles from here), where we had supper at the Red Lobster. (I had the Parmesan Tilapia, which was delicious, with salad, broccoli, and baked potato; the DH had swordfish!) The DH got to do one of his favorite things: grossly over-tip our server. He loves to do that when we can afford it, which isn't often.
Then we went to the nearby Hastings Bookstore; they were having a Hobbit Trivia Night from 7 to 9. I found out where they were holding it, and went back there. There were about eight people participating and several people watching. They asked us questions one at a time, a point for each correct answer. The DH didn't take part, but he was my cheerleader. I got all my answers correct except for a movie-verse question about how many feet they made for Bilbo in the movies. I tied with the guy standing next to me, so they had to come up with a tie-breaker question: "What was the name of Tom Bombadil's wife?" I answered correctly (Goldberry) and I WON! That was awesome! My prize was a DVD, a remastered deluxe edition of the 1977 animated version of The Hobbit, which I've wanted for ages! (Note to self: remove that from Amazon wish list.)
Afterwards I wandered around the store and did some browsing. I found a great book I've coveted from the library: Making Vintage Bags by Emma Brennan. It has patterns, which is why I wanted to have my own copy. It was a good condition used copy at $4.99, with another discount at the check-out to $3.80! A pretty neat bargain for a hardback that originally retailed at over $20. I found several knitting books also deeply discounted, but I was a good girl and passed those up. It was hard, though! I was also looking for a few stocking stuffers for the DH, but didn't find what I wanted.
After I checked out, but before I left the store, I spotted the guy who'd run the trivia contest, and got to thank him. We had a nice long geeky conversation before he had to get back to work, and I went back to the car to join the DH, who had pooped out just a little earlier.
This was such a great evening! I got to indulge my inner Hermione, and be an insufferable know-it-all, which was outrageously fun. I do usually constrain myself just a little bit, but this was a marvelous excuse to show off my nerd-ness.
10:30PM--Anyway, we got home about an hour ago and I typed this up. Going to bed in a few minutes and will post tomorrow.

Date: 2014-12-14 06:34 pm (UTC)The work drama only happened because S. was off and both of them were scheduled together. Hopefully that won't happen again soon.
Ooh! You should post pics when you are finished!

Date: 2014-12-14 07:05 pm (UTC)Make some bags; post some :) And have fun doing them! I'm feeling a major crafting binge coming on but I'm also giving some craft stuff to friends on the reservation so when I break from beading, I'll hare off on a different project.
