So very sad...
Jan. 29th, 2015 09:25 amI just opened my emails to find out that one of my favorite fanfic authors has passed away.
Fiondil of Stories of Arda had been regularly posting updates of his latest stories on a regular basis. When his Monday update did not appear, I worried something was wrong, but it never occurred to me it was something like this.
I'm so sad. He's one of a handful of writers who could get me reading about Elves and the Valar, and he was always very faithful in answering comments, and very kind in his own comments. My last communication with him was a review on one of my own stories just last week. :(

Date: 2015-01-29 07:28 pm (UTC)I was pleased to see that his betas and Nilmandra have quickly arranged to have his stories continue--it will be a good tribute to him.

Date: 2015-01-29 07:41 pm (UTC)Oh, I'm going to miss him so very much. ... I will never be able to think about Namo without that wonderful sense of humor he gave to him, or Glorfindel without the skills Manwe had him trained for. His characters have been a foundation for my own images of Valinor for longer than I've been writing within the Tolkien world.

Date: 2015-01-29 09:04 pm (UTC)Somehow you never think about it happening until it does. At least one good thing: his current WIP is complete and with his betas, who have made arrangements to continue posting it for him. It will be a great tribute!

Date: 2015-01-30 03:01 am (UTC)I was hooked into his work by his "Elf Academy" series, which rather began as almost a crack humor story, but quickly evolved into a serious exploration of what it might be for Elves who had lived into our age.
He was also very generous with his own comments and reviews, and with his knowledge of Elven languages--more than once he helped me out if I needed a word in Sindarin or Quenya for a fic.
