I'm so puffed up it's unbearable! Got some cool LoTR stuff...

The only LoTR thing I had asked for was the Lorien brooch. Which I got, and was enough to make me squee, just that!
But my lovely DH also got me a tapestry map of Middle Earth, the Official (tm) One Ring (it comes in this neat little rock full of lava that lights up! *grin*) and best of all the The Road Goes Ever On *with* CD! The other really lovely thing he got for me was an awesome new unicorn for my collection: it's cast bronze, very nearly a foot high, reproduction of the unicorn found as a supporter for the British Royal Arms--absolutely *gorgeous*! I got a few other little things as well, but those were just so awesome, I just had to post and gloat share!

Merry Christmas again! I'm off to make breakfast!

It all sounds lovely. A LOTR Christmas! I got a copy of the Silmarillion from a friend and so I am going to be trying that out soon. I have yet to read it. I have read, The Hobbit and of course, The Lord Of The Rings a hundred times or so, but was never brave enough for The Silmarillion. Now, I have no excuse and so I must give it a try.

Good luck with that. It took me over a year to read The Sil, and I still need to read it again as a lot of it wasn't absorbed very well. If you like history books, it should be an easy read, but history was never my favorite subject. It gets more interesting near the end, and Of Beren and Luthien is just absolutely lovey, but the lack of hobbits is very distressing for me. I need my hobbits, lol.

That's what I was worried about, the lack of hobbits. I wondered if it would hold my interest without them. I like some history, but not all so it will be a bit of a challenge I'm sure. I'll let you know if I manage it.

I didn't have much of a problem with it, but then, I like history. ;-) I don't think it's really that much of a tough read once you get used to it. Unfinished Tales was tougher then The Silm, but after a while I breezed through that as well.

Of course, the majority of both is Valar, Maiar, Elves, Dwarves, and Men... so it might not be your favorite thing to read. Hobbits come in later on, though. :-)

That sounds like a wonderful way to read something with this many layers to it. I wish there was a group like that near here that met for discussions. I plan to forge ahead though. I have my trusty copy of it now and so no excuses remain. Even the holiday is over. Wish me luck!

I will check into this. Thank you for letting me know about it. I started the book yesterday and it is indeed very like a history. It will be slow reading, but I think it will be interesting as I get into it more.

What fun presents! If I asked my family for LOTR things, they would die of heart attacks at the price of most of them. That tapestry sounds so cool! *sigh*

Oooo...you received such lovely presents! I would so like to see the Lorien brooch and the tapestry! Where is that party being held? I'd really like to come :)

Yikes, I'm guessing it's in D'Iberville? That might be a little far to travel, but oh well. Yeah, I'd like more details, like what goes on and all that stuff. Are you gonna be there all day?
