Mondays are the day the DH and I run errands in Stillwater. It looked to be a wonderful day; the weather was wonderful, and we lazed around in the morning and had an early lunch of leftover meatloaf. And then we drove into Stillwater. We stopped at Olive Garden, where the DH picks up the empty bottles for his hobby, and we went to Starbucks to pick up coffee grounds for the garden, dropped off some books at the library and then stopped at Walmart. The DH needed weedeater string, and I had a few grocery items to pick up. We thought that would be easier than having to go back out to the Walmart in Cushing after we got home.
I found what we needed and we got in the car to come home, and that's when the unexpected happened...
We pulled out of our parking space and drove slowly down the aisle when suddenly this big Dodge Durango backed out of its space suddenly and T-boned the car.
I wasn't hurt, even though it hit my side of the car, but the DH was kind of jerked over and wrenched his back a little. The woman who hit us called the police, and they came and took down all the info. The EMTs wanted to take the DH to the hospital, but he refused. I could not exit the car since the door was smashed. We were able to drive home, and are waiting for the insurance to decide what to do. I don't think it will be fixable.
I had to crawl over the seats and the shift and under the steering wheel when we got home. It wasn't easy!
Today we've mostly been resting and doing things around the house. The police officer told us the report would be available on Wed. and then we'll have to see what the insurance says. Thank goodness we always take out gap insurance with our loan in addition to our regular insurance!
Here is what it looks like now (except the color didn't come out right):

Here's when it was new:

If it's totaled we think we may not replace it right away; since the DH's retired the only time I really need a car is when he's working his every-other-weekend. I can ask my boss to schedule me for a weekday on those weeks. The DH doesn't like me being without a car, but I don't do a lot of running on the weekends when he's gone anyway. I think we could do fine with only one car, and it would save us nearly $350.00 a month.

Date: 2016-09-27 10:36 pm (UTC)I'm sure if it had happened on the road instead of a parking lot, we would have been seriously hurt.

Date: 2016-09-28 12:50 pm (UTC)The DH is feeling well enough today to try mowing the front yard. Then we have to go back to Stillwater and pick up the police report!

Date: 2016-09-28 10:01 pm (UTC)If you were in warmer climates you could do with a bicycle on those days when the car would be unavailable, but maybe look into something automated without it being a new car. You never know when you'll need that second vehicle or conveyance.
Anyway - I know you will make the right decision for your family and, once again, I'm so relieved that only the car was hurt - not either of you!

Date: 2016-09-29 02:54 pm (UTC)We may be able to get mine fixed--that would be ideal. If not, I think we could probably manage for a few months. If it goes all right, we'll make do with one car, but if it becomes a struggle, we'll have to get another one.
