This happened in the UK after the Brexit vote too, when initially we had a similar wave of horrible obnoxious racists being emboldened to spray their hatred everywhere because they thought everyone who had voted the same way as them agreed with them.
Thankfully, that initial wave of hard-right euphoria seemed to die down here, as they realised that actually, no, all the non-white and/or non-British residents of the UK weren't going to depart or be kicked out overnight (and most of them appear to have the attention spans of goldfish). Hoping the same, in terms of the enabled racists pretty soon realising they haven't taken over the country wholesale and shutting up, will also prove true in your case.
But in the meantime, the safety pins are definitely a good and a simple idea.
I've started wearing one on a chain around my neck. I wore a cross for years, so it's easier to remember than pinning something to my shirt. I tried wearing a cross and pin on the same chain, but decided that just looked silly and made it hard to tell what either of them were.
