Stuffed to the gills

Well we took Mom with us to Wiggins (a little town about 40 miles to the north of here) to a catfish house for lunch. This particular place is *really*really* good!

I had the all-you-can-eat catfish platter with fries and hushpuppies, and I got a salad instead of coleslaw. The catfish was so crispy on the outside, and perfectly flaky on the inside, and the hushpuppies were scratch--not the frozen kinds with jalapenos in them that many places use now!

Jim and Mom also split an order of fried dill pickles--but those are flat too salty for me.

I will probably be dreaming I'm a fish tonight...

Oh it is! Especially Mississippi farm-raised catfish--it has a lovely mild flavor, and when it is fried just right, yummmm!

Catfish! I haven't eaten catfish in a long while. Now I must go get some. :)

*grin* I had the idea--and danachan made them for me. I'd hoped to use my other one for Esmeralda (an emerald) before Mother's Day was over, but my internet connection went all wonky, and I couldn't get online for a while.

Hushpuppies are lovely when they are freshly fried. But I really don't like the kind that were frozen first.

ooohhh... fried pickles! I love those! and the last place i had them didn't make 'em right... :-P

I don't do fish, but i'll do hushpuppies! color me happy as a pig in mud with fried pickles and hushpuppies and corn and mashed taters...

and all sorts of unhealthy stuff.

Well, as I said, I'm not much on fried pickles myself, but the DH loves them--and my mother ate quite a few as well.

There are only a few kinds of fish I like, and really good fried catfish is one of them. And freshly fried hushpuppies--yum!

"Unhealthy" has the best flavor, of course!

They're putting jalapenos in hush puppies now? Evidently, I have not been keeping up with the food trends. I love fish: whether it's catfish or not, fried in batter and flaky, that's what I'm looking for!

Sounds like a lovely lunch. But what are hush puppies? I only know the shoe brand with that name LOL
