As I've mentioned once or twice, my DH is more into Harry Potter than I am, re-reading the books often, and re-watching the movies. I told him the other day about how they are taking odds on which characters will be killed in the last book, and the speculation on what will happen...

...anyway, he came up with a sily theory that makes me wish he would try to write fanfic, or that I had an interest in writing Harry Potter fic, although it would probably infuriate a lot of HP fans. He was joking, but: Ron dies; Harry ends up with Luna Lovegood; Hermione ends up with Neville Longbottom, and Percy turns out to be Voldemort! I nearly died laughing, imagining the uproar.

But it got me to thinking, he might enjoy some HP fic. He's not into LotR fic, though he used to read *my* stories before I got too many for him to keep up with.

I've never really had much interest in HP fic. So I'd like to know--is there any *good* *gen* HP fic? He'd definitely have no interest in pairings! (Slash OR het) But from all I can tell, it seems HP fandom is all about the pairings.

Nothing too long or involved. I'll have to print them out--he doesn't like to read on the computer screen.

http://www.fanfiction.net/~ozma A little older, but the Squib tales are very good gen fic.

Also older, mine, and probably too long, but definitely gen http://www.fanfiction.net/s/599029/1/

There are a lot of gen fics out there, not necessarily about pairings, but you're right, a lot of hp fandom is about ships.

They're amazing. Ozma kind of stopped writing after OotP came out, but what she'd done before that is absolutely classic.

I'm just rabbit. Jinx of the batwings is a friend, and it is she who is responsible for "Knowledge is It's Own Reward". We work together on the Slytherin Study Group, but a lot of it is also Jinx. (If ff.n cooperated she'd be ~v~Jinx~v~.)

Oh, and did you ever read the end of "Balance", which I actually finished? (Unlike the poor Snape/Dursley epic, which is still in limbo.)

Hmm, it's been awhile since I read HP fic, but I seem to recall I loved a few gen fics (gen is all I read) on ff.net. They would be listed on the favourite stories section of my ff.net author page.

He might enjoy [livejournal.com profile] shoebox_project. It's in PDF format here, which is better than the actualLJ version because it has all of the photos and such that have worn out their bandwidth here. This is all about the Marauders at Hogwarts, and it is absolutely hilarious.

Gehayi writes the best HP genfic. Go to her Skyehawke page (http://www.skyehawke.com/archive/authors.php?no=335) for a comprehensive listing. I would personally recommend Stopped. It moves me every time I read it. Just to let you know, her fic tends to be dark and angsty.

I don't think JKR will kill Harry, because she would make many people very angry, but who knows, really?

But anyway, if your husband doesn't like dark and angsty genfic, then I suggest checking out [livejournal.com profile] omniocular. I'm not that familiar with most of the writers on that comm, but it's all gen. I'm sure there's something he would like!

An excellent place to start is at The Sugar Quill, http://www.sugarquill.net/index.php?action=flourish. My own stories are listed there under The Library, but there are many fantastic stories listed there, including Ozma's, which were suggested above. I also suggest your husband read anything by Thing1, alphielj, durayan, mincot, alkari, robin, DMP, and... well, I'd have to get a list together for you and e-mail it to you. What does he like in HP specificially?
