Recent ruminations
Dec. 26th, 2005 10:47 pmI have come to the conclusion that I can forgive PJ for all his atrocities because he brought Howard Shore together with LotR!
The soundtrack is amazing. The last time I watched FotR, I thought I heard a little hint of Gollum's song when Gandalf saw Bilbo's map at Bag End, but I wasn't sure. Now I am.
Watched "Ringers" tonight--(Cut for spoilers)the bits with the hokey sixties type art and animation were a bit overdone, but I enjoyed Dom's narration. You could tell that he's not tired of LotR, and that he still has a love for it--all of them seem to still have a love for it. But it was a hoot watching the fans, and I wish they'd done more of it. The lady who has all the action figures was fun, and I loved the bit about fanfiction, as the one person was trying to explain Mary Sues and slash, and then when they started quoting "Very Secret Diaries" I was giggling like a loon.
But what really had me ROTFL was during the credits, the two women trying to explain why hobbits would be better lovers than Elves. I was just dying, that was *so* funny, and sounded just like LJ!
It's been a nice day, very quiet, considering I had workmen in the house most of the day.

Date: 2005-12-27 11:27 am (UTC)So, since I am in a forgiving mood, I won't even mention the deviations and plot holes. ;-D

Date: 2005-12-27 07:06 pm (UTC)I adored the movies. Everything about the movies. Whether it was in the book, added, switched, replaced, what-have-you. The movies brought me into the fandom, got me to read the books, and even got me to read two more books that aren't part of the LOTR trilogy. The only book I haven't read yet is the Hobbit, and I'm waiting for that movie to come out. :-)
If it weren't for the movies, I would not be here. I would not be writing.

Date: 2005-12-27 08:37 pm (UTC)I do love the movies. But I am sorry, I still see the warts, and wish that they had done a few things differently. Can't be helped--I waited for 35 years for those movies and wanted them to be perfect. Leaving Tom Bombadil out or exchanging Arwen for Glorfindel (poor Elf never gets a break) are understandable. Faramir's attempt to take Frodo to Gondor, or the whole Gollum-Sam-lembas nonsense on the steps of Cirith Ungol were not. And plot holes? *ssshh*you said you were being forgiving*smacks self upside the head*sorry*will go put the next CD on*Howard Shore. Howard Shore. Howard Shore...

Date: 2005-12-27 07:00 am (UTC)My parents got us "Ringers" for Hanukkah and we'll get it tomorrow when we visit them. I think I'll not mention certain bits to my dad - he thinks fans are odd enough as it is, and that includes his eldest daughter... :)

Date: 2005-12-27 07:11 am (UTC)I was listening to the soundtracks the other day at work, the ones for TTT and ROTK. It was a little frustrating because I couldn't remember where *any* of the music occured in the movies (well, except when Billy started singing), but it's still very pretty to listen to.
Ringers sounds like fun. Almost rented it the other night but didn't. The Very Secret Diaries were fun for awhile but the jokes got old after awhile, except for the "Sam will kill him if he tries anything" one. That one cracked me up every time.

Date: 2005-12-27 11:34 am (UTC)And the music he got spectacularly right. Howard Shore just knocks my socks off.
I agree, VSD is a one-note joke, but what is hilarious is seeing them trying to show/explain it. *snicker*

It's the source of a lot of quotes: "Still Not King" "Still the Prettiest" and "Sam will kill him" among the most famous.
I think one of the funniest has to be "The Very Secret Diary of a Ringwraith".
