Five lies, one truth meme
Sep. 26th, 2006 01:39 pmSo, here are "five lies, one truth" about my Bilbo.
BILBO: Five lies, one truth
1. He sometimes wishes that he had never gone with the Dwarves. It complicated his life immeasurably.
2. He do not know as much Elvish as Frodo thinks he does.
3. Of all the students he had, the one who gave him the greatest joy to teach was Samwise. Even Frodo did not have the thirst and eagerness for knowledge that young Sam displayed, nor appreciated the learning so much.
4. He find Elves rather irritating and supercilious, and sometimes thinks Rivendell is boring.
5. Frodo does not realize that the only reason he adopted him was to thwart the Sackville-Bagginses. He was very glad later, for many other reasons.
6. Lobelia was rather a handsome lass in her youth. He thinks that if he had shown the proper interest in her, he could have helped to soften her abrasive nature. She might not have made a bad Mistress of Bag End, if he could have gotten to her young enough.
And now I tag:
*(Oh, and thank you,

Date: 2006-09-27 01:43 am (UTC)No seriously - the true one has to be #3.
I got the Gaffer! That should be interesting. I'll try to have that up by tomorrow. :)

Date: 2006-09-27 03:54 am (UTC)Oh, and I will pass this challenge along to Errol who will be thrilled to post something. He has been quiet lately.

Date: 2006-09-27 05:18 am (UTC)Hmmm -- I guess #5. Somehow it seems right...

Date: 2006-10-02 11:54 am (UTC)No, it's only partly true. Actually my Bilbo had always planned to take Frodo in, and only delayed because Menegilda and Esmeralda convinced him Frodo was too young, and still needed a "female touch". But the S.B.s *were* the catalyst for pushing him to go through with it, in spite of female relatives.
#3 is the correct answer.

Date: 2006-09-27 05:35 am (UTC)You see, I thought it was "five truths and one lie" and I was having a terrible time choosing between them for only #3 seemed at all truthful to me, and yet if there was only *one* lie, which *one* could it be...?
Glad I read it over again.
I had better hit the pillow. Too many late nights and early mornings, and last night was broken--I went to bed at eleven, not too bad considering, and was jolted out of a sound sleep by banging. Lots of banging. Sounded like construction. Hammering. Pound-pound-pound-pound-pound. Repeated.
And just before it stopped I realised that someone was locked out of somewhere, and was banging on his or her door, trying to wake up whoever was inside, to open up. But that sleeper must have been a *sound* sleeper. Sounder than myself, anyhow.
So here I go, trying it again, and hoping that the hammering neighbour remembered his/her keys tonight.
