Winter wonderland...
Jan. 17th, 2007 06:24 pmThanks to
danachan for her help in getting these loaded, I now have pics to show you of our new home.
All that white stuff?
It's not snow.
It's ice.
Here's the front of our new house:

...and here's the back!

Sugar and Sissy in the back yard...

The DH with the dogs...

Our cars in the driveway, covered in ice...

Date: 2007-01-18 04:04 am (UTC)In fact, we no longer even leave new tire tread marks, when the DH backs out of the driveway to go to work.
And he took a spill tonight. He says he's fine though.

Date: 2007-01-18 04:06 am (UTC)It's a cute little house, though about half the size of the other.

Date: 2007-01-18 03:57 am (UTC)Congrats on being able to walk on that stuff. I'm glad it missed us. It all went west and east of us. I'm sure we'll get something, though, before the winter's over.

Date: 2007-01-18 04:08 am (UTC)It's a challenge to walk on it, it really is.
I hope you don't get it like this. People around here keep saying this is unusual. Can't prove it by me.

Date: 2007-01-18 04:16 am (UTC)The house looks lovely. I bet the dogs are enjoying the snow. And you look right at home out there too!

Date: 2007-01-18 03:54 pm (UTC)It's a cute house, though. And the dogs are funny. Sissy does kind of like it, but Sugar's a wimp, and all she wants to do is turn around and come right back in, LOL!

Date: 2007-01-18 09:37 pm (UTC)But if you're really wanting to make snowhobbits, just wait until this weekend. From what the weathermen are saying, we'll have perfect snow for building with.
Hey, if you make some snowhobbits, so will I, and then we can compare pictures. What do you think?
Stay warm, Natalie

Date: 2007-01-19 05:08 pm (UTC)The only problem I'm having (other than the fact that I'm scared to death of driving on this stuff so I'm taking the bus everywhere)is that my front yard is a sheet of solid smooth ice. It's like a skating rink, literally. And since there's this small hill curving down to my mail box, getting my mail has been something of a challenge. There is absolutely no traction and nothing to hold on to. I could just sit down and slide to the mail box (and no, I won't admit how I know this works), but then I can't get back up the hill. Yesterday I had to inch my way (carefully) to the neighbor's flatter yard, and then backtrack along the edge of the street to my mailbox. Then I had to reverse the process to get back to my house. Took me 15 minutes just to pick up some junk mail and a couple of bills! Blah!

Date: 2007-01-19 05:55 pm (UTC)Oh, I know what you mean. We've been hanging on to the edge of the fence, and then the cars, and such! And salt on our steps didn't seem to help--I think there must be some knack to that we haven't figured out yet.
Yesterday, it warmed up enough to melt just a little, and then overnight it all froze smooth again! So all the old footprints and stuff we were trying to walk in for traction were all smooth and slick again.
My husband keeps quoting that old line from M*A*S*H*: "Ladies and gentlemen take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice." He said when he fell, he started laughing because that was all he could think of!

Date: 2007-01-18 04:12 pm (UTC)The yard's not as big as it looks with all the white--it's good sized, but much smaller than our previous yard. I was standing in the street when I shot the picture, and you can't really see where the street edge and the yard join together.

Date: 2007-01-18 02:36 pm (UTC)But I love your house. American architecture is so different to English and I've developed a great fondness for it. You don't build in boring squares. Everything in the UK looks like a box.

Date: 2007-01-18 04:13 pm (UTC)I don't know about that--I've always loved all the pictures of cute little English cottages--but I suppose those are mostly all out in the countryside!

Date: 2007-01-18 02:59 pm (UTC)Your new house is adorable! Very nice architecture. You simply must post pics once you have it all set up.

Date: 2007-01-18 04:16 pm (UTC)I'm glad you like it! We think it's very cute, but we are going to have to do a lot of renovating to make it the way we want. Maybe I will scan in some of the sketches I'm doing of what we want it to look like someday!
