What a day...

I had to see the DH off to work early this AM, and then he's late getting home, though this is the first time since we moved that he's been this late. And I had to go to the dr.'s office...Cut for medical TMI of the female sort...

I had to have a Pap smear. I am quite sure most of you know that's no fun, but it's always been real agony for me. Now I know why. After she finished with me, and I'm through moaning in pain, she says "You can feel your cervix, can't you?" I must have looked at her like she was daft, though I didn't say what I thought, which was "No s***!" I just said "Uh-huh." So *then* she tells me that only about one out of ten women can actually feel their cervix! Lucky me.

And Thursday, I have to go and get my boobs squashed with a mammogram.

eeeps! I never knew I wasn't feeling it - or never really thought about it, lol.

As for the mammo - my first one was when I was in my twenties or so, and it didn't hurt much, so I always wondered what everybody was moaning about. Then I had another in my thirties and OH MY!!! Suddenly I understood...

Sounds like you're having a rough week. Did your hubby ever find his keys? or how long a replacement check will take?

My suggestion - give each other foot rubs. True heaven!

Bleh. I guess I'm one of those one in ten, too. Sheesh. I just remember my one and only mammogram last year (the first) which I had done due to pain in my breasts. And that really didn't help any.

Hope yours is easier and the rest of your day is better...

Sometimes I wonder if I should ask my doctor whether I should be getting pap smears and/or mammograms. Then I remember that asking might lead to them actually happening, and I decide to keep quiet. :-\

I wish I *could* keep quiet, but the DH won't let me. He's a bear about me seeing the dr. regularly and taking my meds, etc.

What?? They think people can't feel that??? [sputters in anger at the pain over the years which has led me to avoid these things whenever at all possible and actually to *kick in the head* someone adminstering one] Go do some recent research, medical profession.

Well, from what she said, the majority of women only feel pressure, but some of us are apparently more sensitive than others. Honestly, though, I don't see how someone could *not* feel having cold metal instruments inserted in their body...

I didn't kick her in the head--she was actually gentler, and it was less pain than I've had with one in the past. But it was still fairly excruciating.

Tits in the wringer time! I hate hate hate mammograms on a personal level. As a healthcare professional, I understand that they're a good thing, but on a personal level, I hate them.

I think mammograms must have been invented by *men*! There *has* to be some easier way to do it, if someone would try to find it out. I notice no one ever suggests squashing *their* sensitive bits in the name of medicine!

And, yeah, I know it's needed, as the DH reminds me. But that doesn't keep me from dreading it.

Breast MRI is still being researched as a screening method - currently the idea is that it's too expensive (most places charge well over $1000) for not much more information given. Ultrasound misses a lot. I've heard about once place looking at CT scan, too.

When I was still in the Air Force doing primary care, you should've seen the horrified looks on young men when I told them they needed to do monthly testicular self-exams and have regular exams by a doc (testicular cancer screening). To say nothing of the looks when I had to check them for STDs. "Where do you want to put that swab???"

Well, that sucks, to have an already totally unpleasant procedure made even more unpleasant by pain. :( You poor thing... at least these tests are only once a year or so.

(Of course, I'm absolutely horrible, horrible, at preventive health screenings myself. I'm going to die young because of it, I'm sure...)
