In just a few minutes, my DH is going to pick up Marigold's mother.

I expect us to lose power/cable sometime early this afternoon, but I will make regular posts until we lose it altogether. If we are lucky, maybe it won't go out until tonight. Keeping fingers, toes and everything else crossed.

Katrina is Category 5, which is just as strong as Ivan, and headed straight for the LA-MS state line, which puts us to the east--the bad side of the storm. >8-[ I have a bad feeling this one is going to really get us this time: no last minute swerving.

In case anyone cares, here's the URL for Harrison County Civil Defense: http://co.harrison.ms.us/

Anyway, I need to go switch over the laundry while the power is still on, and finish getting the sewing room ready to flood.

The DH just left to report to the hospital. He is not a happy camper. He would prefer that I leave, but the truth is, I'm just as scared to go as to stay, and if I have to be terrified, I'd rather be terrified at home.

[livejournal.com profile] marigoldg's mom is taking a nap, and the dogs are shut in the bathroom, but once it starts to pour, I will have to shut them in a different room, because *that* bathroom has been known to flood.

I still have a few things to move out of the sewing room.

The sky is getting darker, and the wind is picking up.

I am so grateful for all the concern everyone has shown---((((((hugs flist tightly)))))

This storm could not have come at a worse time.

I know a lot of you are worried about us, so I just thought I'd let you know we're still here, still have power/cable, and still waiting for the worst. The feeder bands have moved in, and we're getting rain, but not yet a heavy downpour. The wind is up--you can hear it in the trees, but it's not even gale force yet.

I'm quite a bit worried about my sister-in-law. She lives west of here in Bay St. Louis, and is not all that far off the water. She refused to come on over here. (Kind of the same reason--she didn't want to have to bring her cat.) Her house is only 11 feet above sea level. So now I'm really worried about her *and* the hubby. He called a while back, though, and is still OK.

I will probably take a little break from the computer, and then, if we still have power, check in again in about an hour or so.

I really appreciate all you guys so much.

One thing: I've been emailing [livejournal.com profile] marigoldg and haven't heard back from her yet, so I don't know if she knows that I have her mom, and that her mom's OK. If anyone in the UK knows how to get in touch and let her know we're all right so far, it would be appreciated.

My brother called from California, and seemed surprised I was still here. The DH called from the hospital to check on me.

Outside it has quietened down just a tad, though it's still raining off and on. I shut off the breakers for power to the shed and the front porch, and turned the fridge a couple of notches colder. I'm probably going to put on a pair of shorts, and lay down on the bed in a little while with the dogs. Marigold's mom has already gone to bed. I just hate to sign off on the computer when I don't know when I'll have a chance to get back on it, LOL!

I turned off the TV. I've been listening to the weather reports ever since 6AM, and I'm sick of it. They are predicting landfall at about 7AM, so it's possible I may have power at least that long.

If the damage is not too bad, but we have no power tomorrow, I may take a notebook to work on some fics.
