OMG, Do I feel old?

Sitting here, getting ready to shut down and go run errands, and I turn around to hear on Good Morning America--

It was *40* years ago today, "Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play..."

FORTY YEARS?!?!?! *facepalm*

I wish I still had my original copy of Sgt. Pepper.

A "friend" of mine *wore out* my LP only a few months after I got it. She borrowed it, and taped a quarter to the needle arm to prevent skips, then kept replaying the last track until she wore a grove almost clean through the vinyl! *grrr* Can you tell I still haven't forgiven her?) I do still have my original "Yellow Submarine" LP, and "Magical Mystery Tour".

That's my mom's reaction to this sort of thing. The other big one is the look she gives me when I wear something that was in style when she was in high school. It's a sort of shake of the head, which I'm sure I'll be doing at my own kids someday. :)

*snerk* It *kills* me to see all the "trendy" young things in their "retro" outfits!

Once, when I worked at Michael's, this young teenager had been really snarky and smart-mouthed to her mom. As they checked out at my register, I gave her tank top, bell-bottomed hip-huggers and platform shoes the once over, and said oh, soooo sweetly "Why honey, when I was your age I had an outfit *exactly* like that!" Oh the hateful glare I got as she flounced off! I just grinned at her mother, who was trying not to laugh!

I've never been able to pull off the so-called "retro" look (I'm more for the classic looks of the thirties and forties), but I do have this baby doll dress that, without fail and every time I wear it, always brings in the comments, "You know, I used to dress just like that in the sixties" or some variation thereof. I think it's cool. :)

Well, it's true that was some *great* music, and it has stood the test of time.

Sometimes when I hear what passes for music now, I wonder how today's kids will be able to feel nostalgic about it in 40 years...

Oh, they will. No matter what it sounds like, the music that you listen to in your first car is always something you remember fondly. : )

I seem to recall a "Band on the Run" 8-track that I completely wore out and then there was an Eagle's 8-track of "Hotel California" and my "Abby Road" Beatles's 8-Track! LOL

8-track I wore out? Broadway cast recording of "Hair"--"here, baby, there, baby, everywhere baby, baby..." "This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius..."

I remember my friends and I snickering over how "risky" some of the lyrics were...

LOL I still have a copy of that soundtrack on CD! My mother found my LP and tossed it because of the 'risky lyrics'. I still know all of the words to "Frank Mills", least risky song on the soundtrack but the one I remember best next to "Age of Aquarius" and "Hair!" Anyone remember the Cowsills singing "Hair" on one of the Late Night talk shows?

LOL! I had the Cowsills version in a 45 single; I had such a huge stack of singles back then! Too bad they don't sell songs like that anymore--oh, wait--they are doing it again now via computer downloads. But I'm such a techno-idiot I don't know how to do that.
