It's been a while since I posted about much of anything. But I'm feeling a little chatty this evening...

I'm very excited: I *finished* my Hobbit Remix Fic! for a_conspiracy and sent it to my beta! And I'm making a good start on another chapter of Eucatastrophe: The Return for Marigold's next Challenge. Plus lovely danachan and I have been talking hobbits, and I just am so excited about some new fic *she's* working on!

And shirebound's post about ketchup/catsup makes me want to brag about my tomatoes! I'm growing them upside-down! I have four varieties planted: Early Girl, Sweet 100, Healthy Kick and Sweet Husky. All of them have blooms, and Early Girl and Sweet 100 already have little green tomatoes on them! *squee!* I might take some pics to post!

I will try to take some tomorrow, and get them posted soon! They really are growing better than any other way I've ever grown them!

Aww...well, if I have as many as I hope to have, I'm sure I'd share them with you.

If the birds leave them alone, and I don't have problems with blossom-end rot, I think I'm going to have lots! I'm very excited about Healthy Kick! It's a new variety from Burpee, that has lots of extra lycopene in it!

Oh, my parents used to have tomatoes in their greenhouse too. Unfortunately they no longer have the vegetable garden, because home grown tomatoes are the best. I have several cherry tomato plants in the garden. I hope they'll bear fruit.

I'd love to see some pictures!

Yeah, it's really cool! I'd been seeing info-mercials to buy kits to grow them that way, but I found directions on the 'net for how to do-it-yourself a whole lot cheaper:

Well, hopefully we will be seeing a few of them before then, because she has got some *brilliant* stuff simmering away! And some really good stuff on the back burner! It's going to be so cool to see some of it finally get posted!

I grew tomatoes once... and loved the taste but... the tomato worms terrified me! They are the scariest thing I've ever seen, and I've got phobias about bees, but those were worse! What do you do about them?

I've seldom had any problems with those. The garden books say to pick them off by hand a drop them in soapy water, but I don't suppose that would help much if you were phobic about them! Main problem I've had in the past has been either blossom end rot, or plants that set a lot of blooms but then don't bear much in the way of fruit. So far *fingers crossed* doesn't look like it will be a problem this year.

My brother and I grew some tomatoes years back, and we'd like to again, but keeping them from the birds and squirrels is nearly impossible. Still... they're so good... you're going to really enjoy them, I know.

Well, the main consideration I think is space-saving in the garden, but apparently they *really* like it, because these are the most thriving tomatoes I've ever grown! For one thing, you don't have to put up something for them to climb, as they are growing out of the bottom of the container. They are a *lot* less work, too, as they are far easier to water, and to guage how much water they need. I'll have to see how well they bear--but the early returns look promising.

We sometimes have had a little problem with birds in the past, but we feed the birds (and squirrels) and as long as they've got bird-seed and feed corn easily accessible, they don't seem nearly as tempted by the tomatoes!

If I attempt to grow some tomatoes myself, I will heartily invest in corn and bird seed! Thanks for the tip! My brother has a fig tree in his backyard, and the animals LOVE those... maybe I should invest in corn and bird seed anyway.
