dreamflower: gandalf at bag end (the boy who got busy)

I'm just wondering about movies 6 and 7. Now that DH is published and out, is there any reason why HBP and DH can't be filmed simultaneously, and then released a year apart--like LotR was? It seems like it would be the logical thing for them to do, in order to compress the time. Their young actors are growing up so quickly--it would help alleviate that problem. And now that the last book's out, they don't have to worry about spoiling the book.

Does anybody think they might do that? Has anyone heard who's been tapped to do director's duties for the next movie?

According to Wikipedia, David Yates is set to direct... but who knows where they got their information? It may still be in the negotiating stages. I *have* heard that the film is supposed to open in November 2008.

According to IMDb, HBP is in pre-production with David Yates directing. No word on DH yet.

I'd love to see DH-the-movie out sooner, but I think from a logistical standpoint it would be a nightmare. With LOTR I think PJ had no choice because the stories tie together so much, that if we had to wait three years between movies the world would have a) been upset or b) lost interest. But HBP and DH do have their own dramatic structure, and while I'm not crazy about HBP's resolution it does end on a very dramatic event.

But the big problem is I can't see two directors sharing those actors. It just wouldn't work unless the two were reeeeally friendly. So I think they'll probably just keep making the movies one at a time, though hopefully in as quick a turn-around as is possible.

Same guy's directing HBP as directed OOTP, I believe. I think one of the reasons they filmed all the LOTR movies together was the sheer logistical nightmare of getting everyong down to New Zealand. I think they're already in the process of filming HBP, though.

HBP is set to come out next year, and is directed by the same guy who did OotP (David Yates). I'm hoping they make plans to bring out DH in 09, but I haven't seen or heard anything about that. It would make sense, since the kids, while still young and able to carry off younger roles, *are* getting older. Both Harry and Ron will be 19, and Hermione will be 18 next year. Draco will be 21.

I can almost see them trying to do both 6 and 7 simultaneously, like LotR or PotC2 & 3... but I don't think they will. Now that all seven books are out, though, maybe we won't have to wait so long for the last movie.

I hope.

I *just* saw OotP last night and I must say that I'm glad to see that David Yates is directing HBP as well, because I thought he did a wonderful job with this one.

Of course, there could have been things I missed because of the *IDIOT* couple (withholds use of other words with difficulty) sitting behind us who were talking, laughing and making smooching noises (both from the actual activity and from faking them) throughout the movie.

I missed you there, SS.... I think you would have come up with a wonderful threat to use on them! LOL

As for the actors getting older, the good thing about that, or at least that which makes it not so bad is that the characters are aging also, and while the actors are aging faster so to speak because they're not making one movie every year, at least it adds to the reality that they are getting older in their schooling.

I don't know but it sounds like a wise thing to do for those reasons you mention. Of course, there will be differences between the books and films and that will contain spoilers of course, but plot wise it won't be spoilery.

The same director for OotP will be back for the next movie, this from several sources. I've heard that he would also like to do 7. I personally think he's not the best for the job. He's a documentary director and it shows in how choppy and unfocused some of OotP was.

As far as I know, they're already working on the script for 6. If they waited to work on the script for 7 also and then get all the pre-production stuff done, you're still probably looking at another year, maybe two, before they can start shooting so not sure that would help matters much. I don't really see the age thing as being much of a problem. Older actors have been playing younger characters since forever, and it's not like they're getting to be geriatric or anything. :P
