It really wasn't that hard to do! And it does look nice and dressy! I wanted something a *little* larger than the usual dressy purse, but not quite so large as my usual sling bag.
I can give you directions, if you want to make one of your own!
Thank you!! It was time-consuming, but not difficult, once I had the Tree simplified enough. I bet you could do it, if you wanted. I'd be glad to email you my directions!
Well, I am HIGHLY impressed! That's gorgeous! Where did you get the pattern for the Tree? I started a White Tree in cross-stitch, ahem, some time ago, and it's been languishing unfinished. Did you make the purse as well?
I found a good line drawing of the White Tree online, printed it out, and traced it onto tracing paper (simplifying a couple of the branches), and then onto a piece of white iron on interfacing. I cut it out *inside* the lines, and ironed it onto the fabric. I used white pearl E-beads to do the beading, and two sizes of bugle beads and a clear E-bead for each of the stars.
I did make the purse. It's just a simple "envelope" pattern I made from three pieces of copy paper, so the size of the purse is just under 8X11. (I didn't worry about adding seam allowances, as I did all but the hand-sewing of the lining on my serger.) I added tiny pleats at the side, to give it a bit of depth, and used heavy duty interfacing all of it. The strap is a bit of gimp upholstery trim, and the fittings attaching the strap were scavenged from a thrift store purse that I bought just to take apart for that purpose.
Hey, I like this one better than the one you had for Deahl's wedding, it's great!!! You always did have the talent and the imagination to make things happen!!! Enjoy your trip, good luck on the jeans jacket!!!
Oh, I made the purse. It's a very simple "envelope" style of purse--I made the pattern from three pieces of typing paper taped together; rounded the flap, and then made little tucks at the bottom corners to give a little depth. It's made of black velvet, with black poly lining, and I used upholstery gimp to make the strap.
But here's a hobbit-purse I made using a purchased purse:
That was an inexpensive denim purse purchased at Walmart. I made a collage of LotR themed pics, and then printed them on iron on fabric with my printer. Ironed it on the front flap, and then edged with ribbon trim, which I then outlined it all on the machine with a satin stitch. I'm still carrying the purse, though it has faded a lot--it's getting hard to make out the hobbit faces. But I made it nearly two years ago, and have carried it constantly since then, so a bit of fading is only to be expected.

How soon do you think you can talk Deahl and Amy into an LJ?
