Not a good day
Feb. 5th, 2008 10:08 amFirst of all, and the most important thing:
danae_b called me first thing this AM. I knew it wasn't good, because she never calls that early in the morning. She's been having severe pain in her side, so she was going to the doctor. She called me back after seeing the doctor, who thinks it may be gall bladder, and that she might need surgery. Needless to say, she's not going to be feeling much like being online today. And those of you who know her situation have to know this has got her very worried.
Anyway, keep her in your thoughts and prayers today!
Second of all, I'm on the DH's laptop--my computer won't come on. I mean it's really down! Which is very frustrating, as I wanted to work on fic today, but I can't get at any of my files. I have some of them on a back-up disc, but I don't want to be putting them into his computer right now. He doesn't have that much memory on this thing. So, I'll have to be using this today. I have no idea what's wrong with my computer. It came up this morning just fine, but then--it just froze. I did the turn off and re-boot thingy that usually works--but NOTHING! I don't know what I'll do if my computer is actually dead! *sob*
Third--the weather is *nasty*!! Yesterday was gorgeous, 72 degrees and sunny. Today we woke up to thunder, rain, hail--probably some snow before the day is out.
One good thing: I got to go vote, so that's one chore over and done with.

Date: 2008-02-05 04:40 pm (UTC)Oh noes about your computer. I hope you can get to your files soon! When you can, think about backing them up to the internet somewhere (like Yahoo's free "briefcase" file storage site) so they're always accessible to you. I back up all my WIPs there.
*hugs*

Date: 2008-02-05 05:22 pm (UTC)You know, I did try that once, but I ran into some sort of snag trying to upload them, and gave up. I'd been thinking about backing up with Google.docs, but had not gotten round to it yet--if only!
(((((hugs back)))))))

Date: 2008-02-05 04:44 pm (UTC)Second, I hope your computer recovers as well! It's very frustrating to have one freeze up on you, especially when you can't get to your fic!
Third, good for you for voting! I voted on my way to work this morning. I will disagree with you on one thing, though - I consider voting a privilege, not a chore.
Hope the rest of your day gets better and better!

Date: 2008-02-05 05:15 pm (UTC)And for the computer. I'm hoping that if I give it a day of rest, it might come back on for me spontaneously.
I used to feel that way about voting--was very passionate about politics, in fact. But in recent years, I've come to think of it as a duty, and rather a futile one at that. I'm hoping that if things go well this year for my party, I might be able to get some of that old enthusiasm back. I do rather miss it.

Date: 2008-02-05 09:28 pm (UTC)But I still vote. At least then when things go wrong, I can say, "Don't blame me, I voted for the other guy!"

Date: 2008-02-05 04:57 pm (UTC)Just a few suggestions: do you hear the pc sounds as you switch it back on? Like the rebooting sounds? Are you sure it's not the monitor? If the pc doesn't make a sound, unplug the energy cable and try again (I sometimes have to do that when photoshop crashes my system). If that doesn't work, get your windows cd and see if you can go back to a restore point.
This might sound as a hd failure, so if you do take it to the shops, don't let them do a reformat or replace immediately, but ask if they can restore your data (there is a way they can do this and at least salvage that). *hugs you* Just what you needed today, not!

Date: 2008-02-05 05:15 pm (UTC)Please tell Dana I'm thinking about her. I hope all goes well.
And I hope your computer decides to behave itself. Maybe it has something to do with the wacky weather?
*Hugs for you, your computer, and Dana*

Date: 2008-02-05 05:21 pm (UTC)Thank you but.... it's not my birthday. *giggle*
Although I DID get a nice gift on my scale this morning... *bounce*

Date: 2008-02-05 05:18 pm (UTC)I wish I could offer any help with the computer, because it sounds kinda past the "good luck!" wishes point. But you have my best wishes! (At least what I'm not sending Dana.)

Date: 2008-02-05 07:25 pm (UTC)Lucky you! We in Washington aren't part of Super Tuesday, and if things go the way they usually do, they'll have a winner crowned before we even vote! What a country...
Hope somebody's helping Dana identify her options--and thank goodness for backup computers!

Date: 2008-02-05 09:32 pm (UTC)I hope so, too! Anyway, I've put contact info for the hospital at this post:

No room number yet, though.

Date: 2008-02-06 02:43 pm (UTC)And I gotcha re: the weather. Here the wind was howling so badly last night that I thought for a moment I was back in the attic of a rickety old house I used to share with housemates when I lived back in rural NC - not in the fourth floor of a twenty-story apartment building like where I live now!
