Just a very brief snippet...

PART 27

That night, after the hobbits had retired, Legolas passed their door. His sharp Elven ears heard the sound of whimpering. Cautiously, he opened the door and glanced in. It was clear that Merry was in the beginnings of a nightmare: his face was furrowed, and he was twitching uncomfortably.

Legolas walked over and sat by the bed, placing his hand over Merry’s brow, and began a soft singing. Soon, it was clear that Merry had relaxed--not only he, but the others as well, seemed to sink into a deeper, more peaceful slumber.

The Elf stayed there, singing, until the dawn began to break and the Sun was making her way over the horizon. Silently, he took his leave.

Perhaps the hobbits did not need to suffer in their dreams after all.

Oh, what a lovely line and a wonderful snippet!

I love seeing Legolas healing the hobbits here. I'm so glad you posted this. I'm supoosed to be writing a Legolas and Merry fic for the next Challenge and I've sort of hit a wall. I think your ficlet is going to re-inspire me :)

Now that was very sweet. I like the idea that Legolas was there all night and then left before they woke so that they would not know. So very elf-like.

Oh, what a tender moment! I loved this so much, and not only because it is Merry, but because Legolas is such a true friend to them and knows what to do so that all the hobbits rest easy. And your writing is so excellent too! :)
