Conversation at breakfast

My DH is so cute.

DH: (in hopeful tone of voice) It's only 43 days until Christmas.

Me: (cautiously, knowing him very well) Is it really?

DH: Uh-huh! It is! It will be here before you know it.

Me: ...Aaand?

DH: Can we decorate? I could get the tree out this weekend...

Me: *sigh* No, dear. But we can take the rest of the Halloween decorations down and put up the Thanksgiving ones...

DH: (disappointed) Oh, okay...

(It's actually a little late for the first appearance of this annual conversation--it usually takes place within a day or two of Halloween...)

Good for you! As much fun as Christmas decoration is, it shouldn't be allowed to eclipse Thanksgiving, which would have been swallowed up by Halloween and Christmas long ago if we weren't so concerned with our stomachs!

Aww, poor DH! I'm on his side! The last couple of years I've started putting up my Christmas decorations in early November. :P I find it makes Thanksgiving more festive. That may have something to do with the fact that I don't have any Thanksgiving decorations, but still. ;)

Oooooh! He's too cute. I love Christmas decor, although we have a strict after-Thanksgiving rule at my parents' house. I'm getting around it by having my own place, a little; I'm justifying putting my tree up early since I have to leave my humble abode a week before Christmas. Having seen your Halloween extravaganza, I'd love to see your Christmas stuff!

Yes, the day *after* is our tradition--but it never stops him from trying to jump the gun, LOL!

Over here, the tradition for a lot of people is the day following Thanksgiving, which is the last Thursday in November. My hubby knows that, but he tries anyway, LOL!

He's so funny when he's sincere! (He can be funny on purpose, too. But he always hopes I'll say yes--in spite of decades of evidence to the contrary! LOL!)

I love them too--and I like to *plan* them and *work on them* early--just not actually put them up! But I also have some nice Thanksgiving decorations, and I like to see them get a turn, too!

I wish I had time to decorate but I fear the season will basically pass me by until the 21st when I am home and will hopefully buy a Christmas tree with mum (we don't usually put it up until the 23rd).

I'm with you, DF... I try to make sure Giving Thanks isn't completely overshadowed by Christmas.

I know you folks across the pond generally tend to decorate later than we decandent Americans! But it's all in good fun!

It's a lot of fun, and doesn't have to be expensive!

Well, I like for every holiday to have its turn, although Christmas gets the most--but I put up different wreaths for Mardi Gras, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Spring and then I have a patriotic one I put up from Memorial Day through the 4th of July! And we decorate a lot for fall and Halloween and Thanksgiving...

He's just a big kid--he loves Christmas and always tries to rush the season!
