About that "Hobbit bridge movie", this quote is a little disturbing:

What specifically this could be is a guess, but our source seems to imply delving into the back-story of the Istari (Wizards) including Gandalf and Saruman’s youth in Valinor. The inclusion of other young wizards at the academy would provide an opportunity for cameos from LOTR actors who’s story arc doesn’t fit into The Hobbit.

Say what? "Hogwarts in Valinor"? *shakes head* Okay, this sounds like a really cracky and bad idea...

Let us hope it gets thrown out along with "Arwen at Helm's Deep" and "Aragorn fights Annatar at the Black Gate"--which were also really cracky ideas.

Anyway, probably the Estate won't let them have it.

Yeah, I read that too and it does sound very, very, very, bad. I can't see this working at all.
It really does sound like a way to capitalize on all the popular 'young wizard' books and films. Money, money.

WAIT!!!!!
Maybe it's a TORN April fool's joke! It would be perfect. It is so upsetting that it would totally make a brilliant joke.

LOL True, we would have been sure that was a joke. Still, I can't see the Tolkien estate agreeing to anything like that. I'm going to think it's an April Fool's until tomorrow at least. I'm happier that way. If it's bad news then tomorrow is soon enough for it.

Except that there was no Wizard's Acadamy in Valinor... *headdesk*

This has to be an April Fools' joke. Has to be.

Who says there *wasn't* an academy of wizards on Valior? Just because the Prof didn't write about it doesn't mean he wasn't thinking about it. Why can't there be more than 5 wizards? Maybe the others didn't want to leave Valinor, or maybe it was a best-of-the-class sort of thing. The top five wizards who were the best in the class earned a ticket to Middle-Earth for their masters degree. Or something. ;-)

*runs off giggling*

You rebel you! There were more than five, but I don't think it worked as in an academy. However, Aulë seems to have enough followers. :)

Or they got caught in the act when pulling a prank. This was their 'punishment' ;) No wonder the Blue Wizards wandered off. Hehehe.

LOLOL!!

Yes, I'm of the "This is an April Fool's prank" class.

I remember my daughter getting SOOO upset when she read a cast list for Prince Caspian that included Mr T playing a role, and that was an April Fool's prank.

That's true... but really! The similarity to Harry Potter...!!!

They couldn't be THAT daft, could they? Really?!??

*hopes not*

lol, I forgot it was April 1st today. They did something similar on the Narniaweb last year saying Reepicheep would be voiced by Mr. T. Yeah, fell for that one too :P

I've already readied my canon, just in case it isn't a joke. But it certainly appears to be. At least TORn knows how to prank properly--none of this "it's too ludicrous to be true!" nonsense!

There certainly was a lot of ludicrosity; however, that little reference to HP is just too convenient. There was a lot of bleeding canon in the LotR films, but those generally didn't make any sense; it didn't try to make clever references to other popular fantasies.

That, and everything we've heard in the past, even before all of the TH rights were sorted out, was just two films. Just two.

I'm not holding my breath. If come tomorrow they have more specific information (also, notice how they say "more information tomorrow" on the 3/31 post!) that makes it sound legitimate, I'll mount a full-out protest; otherwise, lol!

Also, notice the "fool" tag on the original post. It's most definitely a joke.

i was pretty wary of that too--i was like, but writing about the IStari will probably include material from the Unfinished Tales and there is not much about them so a lot would be "fanficcing" from their own sources or imagination?

I didn't think it'll work either and am content with two movies. I want to see The Hobbit and the second movie and how well/(unwell) they'll do that first before they butcher more source material unnecessary.

Oh my gosh. They better not! The Istari are suppose to be messagers, not "wizards from an academy". They have a much higher purpose than that! Darn you movie producers who mess screw up canon!

Oh dear *hugs* I am quite certain it is an april fools joke, I don't think New Line is even willing to consider to negotiate with other studios about this. They also have to share profits and all of that.

Don't worry, dear, it *was* TORn's April Fool's joke, as they admit in this update (http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2009/03/31/31573-the-hobbittrilogy/). Neither Tolkien Estate nor Saul Zaentz would ever allow that!
